With city tournaments being held in both Brewton and East Brewton Monday, the most exciting game of the tournaments would be found in East Brewton between the 11-12 East Brewton Yankees and the Brewton Rangers.

With the game tied at 0-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Bryce Booker drove in the winning run to give the Yankees a 1-0 win. Booker scored Dalton Shell who reached on a single.

In the game, Dalton Shell got the start on the mound for the Yankees and allowed no runs, no hits, walked two and struck out 11.

Colton Morris and Blake McGraw came in relief of Shell and allowed one hit, no runs, walked one and struck out four.

Landon Salter took the loss on the mound for the Rangers as he allowed one run one six hits, walked two and struck out seven.

At the plate for the Yankees in the win, Shell was 2-for-3 and Morris was 1-for-3 along with Dakota Graves and Booker. Geovoni Little was 1-for-1.

For the Rangers, Christian Mancil had the lone hit going 1-for-3 with a double.

Brewers 12,

EB Cardinals 1

It took a while to get going, but the Brewers utilized a four-run fourth inning and an eight-run fifth to put the game away in the opening game of the City Tournament.

The Brewers’ slow start had a lot to do with the pitching of Cardinal Lane Chavers, who held his opponents hitless for three-plus innings as he sat down 10 straight. He was helped by an impressive defense, where shortstop Tyshawn Davis, second-baseman Duane Hamby and Marcus Simmons at first base all made great defensive plays.

However, Tyler Hoomes finally kick-started the potent Brewer offense with a one-out triple in the fourth, and was followed by three straight hits from Ethan Tyree, Jared Cooper and Christian Alvarez to score four runs.

The Brewers then polished the Cardinals off with another big inning in the fifth. Both Hoomes and Caleb Winton had two-RBI hits in the inning.

In all the Brewers got two hits apiece from Hoomes and Jared Cooper (2 RBIs), while Brooks Brown (RBI), Tyree (RBI), Tyler Baxter (RBI) and Dakota Stokes all had hits. Jared Cooper, Ethan Tyree and Brooks Brown all combined to pitch a two-hitter, striking out 13.

Cooper struck out all six batters he faced to start (on 18 pitches), while Tyree struck out four of the five he faced and Brown sat down three on strikes.

For the Cardinals, Davis was 1-for-3 and Chavers was 1-for-2 with a double at the plate.

Brewton Tigers 15, Flomaton Braves 1

The Tigers came into the city tournament knowing that they had to swing the bats to win the game and that is just what they did routing the Flomaton Braves 15-1.

When the game was called at the bottom of the fourth inning, the Tigers had a total of 14 hits for the night.

While the Tigers were on fire at the plate, the big story was the Tigers defense with Will Smith leading the Tigers defense by pitching all the way through the Braves line up except for the last batter.

Smith gave up two hits, issuing two walks, and had a total of five strikeouts. Tigers short stop Jordan Williams and second baseman Stokes Jennings also made big plays in the infield by making diving catches and throwing runners out at first.

At the plate for the Tigers, Duncan Brittain was 3-for-3 with two singles and a double.

Jordan Williams was 2-for-2 with a double and Jonathan Lucas was 1-for-1 with a double.

Smith was 2-for-3 with a triple and a double and Austin Holmes was 1-for-2. Ethan Bollenbacher was 2-for-3 and Jennings was 2-for-4.

Deangelo Thomas was 1-for-1 in the win.

For Flomaton, Hayden Hammond, Hannah Fillmore and Conner White combined on the mound for 15 runs on 12 hits, walked six and struck out three.

Fillmore was 1-for-2 at the plate while John Hendricks was 1-for-1.

Brewton Rockies 5, Flomaton Red Sox 2

The Rockies got good pitching from Chris Gehman and Kellyn Winn and took advantage of Red Sox mistakes to get a 5-2 win in the city tournament in East Brewton Monday.

Jake Najor also made some key defensive stops in the game that Rockies coaches said was the difference in the game.

Gehman and Winn combined for two runs on five hits, walked none and struck out nine in the win for the Rockies.

Najor and Gehman were both 1-for-3 at the plate n the win for the Rockies for their only two hits.

For Flomaton, Kevin Gumapac took the loss on the mound.

Kainoa Gumapac was 1-for-2 with a double and EJ Lambeth was 1-for-2 along with Kevin Gumapac. Matthew Ledford was 1-for-3.

BLL Regular season finales: Brewers 2,

Rockies 1

In the last regular-season game of the year – which went seven innings – the league’s top two teams combined for arguably the best pitcher’s duel of the season, as the Brewers Jared Cooper and Christian Alvarez combined for a 13-strikeout, no-hitter against a potent Rockies offense.

On the other side, Kellyn Winn pitched a masterful game as well, only allowing five hits.

Cooper struck out nine Rockies batters, twice striking out the side. Alvarez came on in relief to strike out five more.

One of the Brewers’ hits was a long solo home run in the second inning, which gave his team (13-2) a 1-0 lead early.

But the Rockies parlayed four fourth-inning walks into a run to tie it up at 1-1.

The Brewers finally took the lead for good in the top of the extra inning when Cooper reached on an error and scored on Christian Alvaraz’s hard-hit single to right-centerfield.

Cooper an Alvarez ended the night with two hits each, while Tyler Hoomes added the other.

Marlins 18, Braves 3

On Friday, May 21, the Marlins beat the Braves 18-3 in the last game of the regular season.

Cameron Pope pitched three innings to lead the Marlins, striking out five batters, giving up two hits, and allowing two runs.

Matt Smith pitched the last inning, striking out two batters and allowing no hits or runs.  Gibb Roberts led the Marlins at the plate with a single and a double, both in the third inning.

Todd Watson got singles in both the second and third innings while Keshan Patel also had two singles.

Smith hit a triple in the third inning.

Andrew Etheridge also had a triple in the fourth inning for the Marlins, followed by a double from Demonte Jenkins and a single each from Cameron Pope and Garrett Cave.

Joseph Blackburn pitched 2 1/3 innings for the Braves.

Blackburn struck out two batters, gave up six hits, and allowed 11 runs.

Logan Bush pitched one inning, striking out two batters, giving up five hits, and allowing seven runs.

Donovan Weaver pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing no hits or runs.

Russell Smith had a two-run homerun in the first inning for the Braves in the loss while Steven McCall added a triple in the third.
