Royals, Marlins win Babe Ruth games

In Tuesday Brewton Babe Ruth games at T.R. Miller Tiger field in Brewton, the Royals defeated the Astros 7-6 while the Marlins took down the Brewers 10-3.

With the wins, the Marlins stayed on top of league teams and undefeated improving to 9-0 while the Royals moved into second place with a 5-4 record.

The idle Phillies stayed at 4-4 overall for third place with the Astros fell to 3-6 and the Brewers to 1-8.

Teams will be back in action Thursday in East Brewton and Friday in Brewton.

Two rainout games will be made up Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Royals 7, Astros 6

Lead 6-2 after the top of the fifth inning, the Astros gave up four runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the sixth inning to lose by one run to the Royals, 7-6.

The Royals scored six five unanswered runs with Cam Easterling having the game-winning RBI and hit to score Christian Purvis for the Royals win.

The Astros led 3-0 after the top of the first inning and 4-0 after two innings of play before the Royals cut the lead to 4-2 with two runs in the third inning.

From there, the Astros plated two runs in the fifth inning to take a four-run lead only to see the lead and the game slip away in the final two innings of play. For the Royals, Dylan Godwin earned the win on the mound as he went the complete game six innings and allowed six runs, four earned, seven hits, walked one, hit two and struck out 10. At the plate, Caden Lodge was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple and three RBIs while Easterling was 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI.

Purvis was 1-for-3 and Godwin was 1-for-2 along with Justin Moye. Godwin had one RBI.

For the Astros, Brian Settle took the loss on the mound in relief of starter Darby Black who went five innings.

Settle went one inning and allowed one run, two hits, walked and struck out one.

At the plate for the Astros, Settle was 2-for-3 with one RBI and Black was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Tyler Dehoff was 1-for-3 with one RBI along with Josh Maloy and Nick Laster was 1-for-3.

Marlins 10, Brewers 3

The Marlins overcame a 2-0 deficit after the top of the first inning and used a six-run bottom of the first to cruise to a seven-run win in the nightcap.

Trailing 2-0, the Marlins batted around in the bottom of the first inning while scoring six runs on three hits to take a 6-2 lead.

Already leading by four, the Marlins scored three in the second and one in the third inning to lead 10-2.

The final Brewers run came in the top of the fourth inning.

For the Marlins, Cam Blackman earned the win on the mound going the complete game and allowing three runs, one earned, four hits, walked and hit one and struck out eight.

Jeremy Myers was 3-for-3 and Miles Powell was 2-for-3 with each having one RBI in the win for the Marlins.

Dominique Jackson had one RBI and Robin Swift was 2-for-2 with a double and led the team with four RBIs including a bases loading double in the first inning for three RBIs.

For the Brewers, Cody Smith earned the loss on the mound as he got the start and allowed five runs, walked three and allowed two hits,

At the plate, Ryan Hunt was 1-for-1 with a double and Smith was 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Ryan Gray was 1-for-2 and Alex O’Keene was 1-for-1.
