East Brewton police continue to investigate an early Sunday incident at the Kangaroo Express, also known as the Minute Stop, that sent one person to the hospital and another person to jail.

Clinton Dean Watson was arrested in connection with an assault that left Robbie Williams with a broken ankle, according to East Brewton Officer Clemente Brooks.

“According to the victim, the incident began with an altercation at Riverview Quick Stop,” Brooks said. “The victim said Watson and a second male told him to leave the area that he wasn’t wanted there. After leaving, Williams said he saw Watson at the (Minute Stop) and confronted him about the incident in Riverview.”

Brooks said the confrontation turned physical when Williams hit Watson. At some point during the altercation, Williams suffered a severely broken ankle, he said.

“The victim was taken to D.W. McMillan Hospital as a result of the assault,” Brooks said. “He was later transferred to a Florida medical facility for treatment.”

Following the incident Watson fled the scene and East Brewton Police issued a “be on the look out” for the suspect.

“We put out a bolo for Watson across the county,” Brooks said. “He was apprehended within an hour in Atmore.”

Brooks said Watson was taken into custody and charged with assault second degree in connection with the incident in East Brewton. No charges have been filed against Williams, he said.

The incident remains under investigation by East Brewton Police.
