Brewton Police helped Florida law enforcement officers last week when a fugitive from the state was arrested here.

Brenda Faye Pettis was arrested after Brewton Police Officer Travis Minchew performed a traffic stop and discovered the active warrant for her arrest. She faces additional charges in Brewton for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The traffic stop was made just before 11 a.m. June 18 on Appleton Road, according to Sgt. Andrew Casey, an agent with the Narcotics Division of the Brewton Police Department.

“Officer Minchew performed a traffic stop on a Ford Mustang driven by Pettis on Appleton Road,” Casey said. “Upon performing a driver’s license check Minchew was notified by dispatchers with the department that Pettis was a fugitive from justice out of Florida.”

Pettis was detained and Minchew performed a search of the vehicle, Casey said. The prescription medication Ativan was found in the vehicle, he said.

“Officer Minchew located several items of drug paraphernalia in the vehicle as well,” Casey said. “She was then placed under arrest.”

Pettis was arrested for her fugitive warrant and faces drug charges in connection with the arrest.

Pettis was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center where she was booked on the charges.

Officials with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday that the charges pending against Pettis in Florida had been dropped. She was released on a $5,000 bond following a bond hearing.
