Three key positions in the Escambia County School System should go before the board for approval at Thursday afternoon’s meeting in Brewton.

According to Superintendent of Education Billy Hines, he plans to bring forth three recommendations for principals at Escambia County High School, Flomaton Elementary School and the County Career Tech School during the meeting.

“My plans are to have a recommendation for all three position at tomorrow’s meeting,” Hines said Wednesday afternoon.

It will mark the second principal hiring in less than a month at Escambia County High School after Joseph Dean, who was hired as the school’s leader at the May school board meeting, resigned after only 10 days. The 38-year-old Butler County educator and Monroe County native who served as interim superintendent of education in Butler County last school year returned to Butler County following his resignation. Four days later, the Butler County School Board rescinded his resignation as principal of the Butler County Magnet School.

Flomaton principal David Curry and Career Tech principal Jane Henderson each retired following last school year.

Hines said he also plans to bring several personnel hiring recommendations before the board for schools across the county during the meeting, but said he had not received all recommendations from principals for positions available throughout the system.

“We’ve still got some personnel to hire,” Hines said.

The school board will meet at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the central office in Brewton.
