In a four-team summer softball tournament play date Friday in Brewton, T.R. Miller’s softball team swept through the tournament undefeated.

The Lady Tigers opened the tournament with an 8-7 win over Citronelle and followed that win with a 6-1 win over Straughn.

After a 30-minute lunch break, the Lady Tigers got back to action and defeated Baldwin County 13-8 before the JV Lady Tigers ended the day with a 7-2 win over opening game opponent Citronelle.

“I thought the girls handled everything about the day very well,” T.R. Miller Lady Tiger head coach Greg White said. “It was extremely hot all day and they never really gave in to the heat. We were able to play four games in one day and all 18 players that dressed out got to see some game action. They have been doing a great job in the weight room this summer and this tournament was a chance for them to put some of that hard work to use.”

White said the team still has a couple more summer tournaments in July.

“We have one at Troy University and one at the University of Alabama,” White said. “So we are going to continue with our summer weight training program and get ready to play some more ball.”

Game one: T.R. Miller 8, Citronelle 7

In the opening round game, after playing to a 6-6 tie and the time limit approaching, the Lady Tigers of Brewton scored two runs in the fourth inning after trailing 7-6 to win by one.

T.R. Miller scored five runs in the first inning before falling to four runs in the second inning and two in the third inning to trial 6-5.

The Lady Tigers added one run in the third inning to tie the game at 6-6 before outscoring the Wildcats 2-1 in the fourth inning to get the win.

Taylor Guthrie earned the win on the mound going the complete game allowing seven runs, one earned, on one hit, walked five and struck out four and hit one.

At the plate for the Lady Tigers, Leah Brundidge was 2-for-3 with an inside-the-park homerun and a triple and two RBIs.

Takeysia McFugerson was 1-for-2 with one RBI and Leigh Margaret Bostic was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs.

Game two: T.R. Miller 6, Straughn 1

In game two against Straughn, T.R. Miller used a four-run first inning and added two in the second inning to take a 6-0 lead and win 6-1.

Straughn’s lone run came in the third inning.

Guthrie earned the win on the mound in game two over Straughn as she went the complete game allowing one run, two hits, walked three, and struck out four.

At bat for T.R. Miller, Brundidge was 1-for-3 and Natalie Neal was 1-for-2 with a double.

Guthrie was 1-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs and Emily Waters and Teralyn Moore were both 1-for-2.

Game three: T.R. Miller 13, Baldwin County 8

After holding a 13-0 lead after the top of the third inning, T.R. Miller had to hold on after Baldwin County scored eight runs in the bottom of the inning to win by five.

Baldwin County left the bases loaded to end the game.

T.R. Miller scored three runs in the first inning, nine in the second, and one in the third.

Natalie Neal earned the win on the mound going three innings, striking out four, allowing six hits, and walked eight.

Neal was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs in the win.

Guthrie was 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs and Bostic and Audrey Hamric were both 2-for-2.

Kelsey Thompson was 1-for-1 with a two-RBI double.

Brundidge, McFugerson, Waters, and Moore had a hit in the win.

Game four: T.R. Miller JV 7, Citronelle 4

In a rematch with Citronelle in the final game of the tournament, the T.R. Miller JV team defeated the Wildcats 7-4 to cap off a perfect day for the Lady Tigers.

Citronelle scored in the bottom of the first inning only to see T.R. Miller put a five-spot on the scoreboard in the second inning.

Citronelle cut the lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the third inning, but both teams scored two runs each in the top of the fourth and final inning to give T.R. Miller the win by three.

Laurel Billy earned the win on the mound going four innings, striking out two, allowed five hits and walked none.

Moriah Brundidge was 2-for-2 and Kelsey Thompson was 1-for-3 with a two-RBI triple.

Abbi Roberts was 1-for-2 and McFugerson was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
