Job vacancies for principal and assistant principal positions are up for grabs following announcements made by Escambia County School Board members Thursday.

W.S. Neal Elementary lost Sandra Reid as the assistant principal when she was named as the new principal at Flomaton Elementary School. Reid served in the assistant principal position for three years before earning the promotion.

Other vacancies included one left by David Lanier at Escambia County High School. Lanier was an assistant principal at the Atmore school. He was named as principal of the Escambia County Career Technical Center replacing Jane Henderson who recently retired from the position. Lanier served as assistant principal at Escambia County High School for two years.

Zickeyious Byrd has been named as principal at Escambia County High School leaving his position as principal at Escambia County Middle School.

Escambia County School Superintendent Billy Hines said the posting of the positions was made Friday and hopes a decision will be made soon.

“We have already posted those positions available and they will be publicized for 14 days which is the law,” Hines said. “We will have a board meeting July 15 and hopefully we will be able to fill those positions at that meeting.”

Byrd’s transfer to the high school marked the second principal hiring in less than a month at Escambia County High School after Joseph  Dean, who was hired as the school’s leader at the May school board  meeting, resigned after only 10 days. The 38-year-old Butler County educator and Monroe County native who served as interim superintendent of education in Butler County last school year returned to Butler County following his resignation. Four days later, the Butler County School Board rescinded his resignation as principal of the Butler County Magnet School.
