In a Monday night elimination game between Brewton and Opp, what started off looking like Brewton was going to take advantage of Opp’s late night debacle against Escambia County from Sunday quickly turned sour.

Opp, who gave up an 8-2 lead with two outs in the sixth inning to Escambia County and lost 12-9 Sunday in seven innings, fell to two early Brewton runs in the first inning Monday and was sat down in order in the bottom of the first.

From there, Opp went on to take an 11-2 lead after the fourth inning enroute to a 13-4 win over Brewton.

The loss for Brewton eliminated them from tournament play with a 1-2 overall record while Opp advanced to the championship game against Escambia County Tuesday night.

Opp needed to defeat Escambia County twice to win the title.

Opp scored three runs in the second, five in the third, and three more in the fourth to turn a 2-0 deficit into an 11-2 lead after four innings.

In the top of the fifth inning, Brewton cut the lead to 11-4 with two runs, but Opp returned the favor in the top of the fifth to take a 13-4 lead and held Brewton scoreless in the sixth inning to get the nine-run win.

Along with the 13 runs scored for Opp, the team pounded out eight hits including three triples, and held Brewton to only three hits.

Both teams had four errors and Brewton left nine runners on base while Opp left five.

In the game Monday for Brewton, Russell Smith led Brewton at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with one RBI and an error-aided single, inside-the-park homerun. Andrew Etheridge was 1-for-3 for the only other Brewton hit in the game.

Cameron Pope got the start and the loss on the mound for Brewton. Pope went 3 1/3 innings and allowed 10 runs, nine earned, five hits, walked four, struck out two and hit two.

Davis Wade went the final 1 2/3 innings and allowed three runs, one earned, three hits, walked two and struck out two.
