Escambia County’s rally magic came one run short against Opp Tuesday night in Brewton as they lost 10-9 in the District 5 9- and 10-year-old All Star tournament.

The loss for Escambia County forced a deciding game against Opp again Wednesday night at 7 p.m. for the district title.

Wednesday’s game will make the third team the two teams have hooked up with each other in the tournament.

Escambia County won the first game against Opp 12-9 in seven innings after rallying from an 8-2 deficit with two outs in the top of the sixth inning.

Tuesday’s game had almost the same outcome as Escambia County trailed 9-5 heading into the top of the sixth inning before scoring four runs in the inning to tie the game at 9-9.

In the bottom of the inning with one out, an Opp batter reached base by getting hit and advanced to second and third on passed balls.

From there, a strikeout for Escambia County made it two outs. But, the next batter singled in the winning run to allow Opp to get the one-run win.

Escambia County held a 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning and a 2-1 lead after one inning of play.

In the second inning, Escambia added two more runs to hold a 4-1 lead until the bottom of the third when Opp scored three runs of their own to tie the game at 4-4.

In the bottom of the fourth, Opp plated two runs to take a 6-4 lead only to see Escambia County score one run in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 6-5.

In the bottom of the fifth, Opp seemed to have put the game away with three runs to build a 9-5 lead until Escambia County scored four in the top of the sixth inning.

For Escambia County in the game, Connor Huskey was 1-for-4 with a double and one RBI and Brandon Moye was 1-for-3.

Patrick Lovelace was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Stephen Summerlin was 1-for-3 with two RBIS in the sixth inning.

Jacoby Hawthorne was 1-for-2 with one RBI in the loss.

On the mound, Dylan Emmons got the start and the no decision as he went 2 2/3 innings and allowed four runs, three hits, walked four, struck out two, and hit one.

Huskey relieved Emmons in the fourth inning and went the remaining 2 2/3 innings and took the loss.

Huskey allowed six runs, five earned, on six hits, walked three, struck out five, and hit two.

Opp made four errors in the game and Escambia made five.

Opp left 12 runners on base, including three straight innings with the bases loaded, while Escambia left eight on base.
