The welcome mat rolled out by organizers of the East Brewton July 3rd celebration was well used according to East Brewton Mayor Terry Clark.

“We had a terrific day,” Clark said Saturday night. “Everyone seems to have had a good time and we are glad to be able to have this in East Brewton every year.”

Bingo games were held in the afternoon and Clark said a big crowd came to play.

“We have some of the best folks in this community who donate prizes for our bingo games every year,” Clark said. “This year was no different.”

Horse shoes clinked and clanked throughout the afternoon as a tournament was held on the grounds of Ft. Crawford Park, where the majority of entertainment and activities were held.

The annual duck race also brought a large group to the water’s edge to see which little duckie would make it to the finish net first.

Winners in the race were Liz Burnham in first place; Larry Woods with the second place duck; and Danny Cottrell with third place. Prizes were $200, $100 and $50, respectively.

“I’d like to thank everyone who came out to enjoy the games, entertainment and activities we had for the day,” Clark said. “We didn’t have any problems that I heard about and we had plenty for people to do and enjoy.”

Clark said the Ft. Crawford Commission, the main force behind the event, is already making plans for next year’s celebration.

East Brewton Police reported no major problems during the event or following the close of the fireworks presentation.
