Party busted for drugs, police say

A holiday weekend party ended with several arrests and charges of illegal drug and alcohol sales, Brewton police said.

A raid of a local club early Saturday morning turned up underage drinking and drugs, police said.

“Agents received information that illegal drug sales and illegal alcohol sales would be taking place at a location known as ‘The Bar,’ also known as ‘Duckies,’” Brewton narcotics division chief Brian Davis said. “Agents contacted Alabama Beverage Control agents and learned that this location did not have a license to sell alcohol.”

Davis said officers arrived just after midnight and found several minors at the party consuming alcohol, and drugs that had been discarded by patrons on the floor — including more than 160 grams of marijuana, 10 tablets of Ecstacy, 2 grams of powder cocaine and 1 gram of crack cocaine.

Officers also collected a large amount of alcoholic beverages.

Arrested were:

• Charles Daniel Todd, 28, of Brewton on charges of possession of marijuana in the first degree,

• Steven St. John Hodges, 37, of Montgomery, on charges of distribution of a controlled substance (Ecstasy) and possession of a controlled substance (Ecstasy).

The following people were charged with minor in consumption of alcohol: Jeffery Sinclair Smith, 20, of Brewton; Matthew Jabronz Lane, 19, of Brewton, Sammie Lee Jenkins Jr., 20, of Castleberry; Tahleak Rahmel Walton, 20, of Brewton; Brandon Jamar Harrod, 18, of Evergreen; Jamere Dashaun Fair, 20, of Evergreen; Ethan Strondell Safford, 19, of Douglasville, Ga.; and Deonka Simone Norris, 20, of Brewton.

The following agencies assisted in the investigation and arrest: Brewton Police Department, Alabama Beverage Control Board, Escambia County Sheriff’s Department, Atmore Police Department and the 21st Judicial Drug Task Force.
