With their backs against the wall Tuesday night and needing to defeat Opp twice to win the district championship, Brewton forced a deciding game with a 5-4 win over Opp.

The deciding game was played Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Opp.

With the game tied 4-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth Jonathon Lucas led the inning off with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball.

Opp struck out the next two Brewton batters to set up the winning run on second with two outs.

With that scenario, Timothy McDonald drove in Lucas from second to give Brewton the 5-4, one run win and extended Brewton’s life in the tournament with the deciding game Wednesday.

Brewton trailed two after the top of the second inning after Opp scored one run each in the first and second innings.

In the bottom of the second inning, Jared Cooper got Brewton back in the game with a solo homerun and Brewton later tied the game on a passed ball . A Trippe Floyd single gave them a 3-2 lead after the second inning of play. The game would stay that way until the top of the fifth inning when Opp plated two runs to claim a 4-3 lead but Brewton tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the inning on a passed ball.

In the sixth inning, Opp left a runner on second base to keep the game tied at 4-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, with two outs, McDonald drove in the winning run as Brewton claimed the win.

Floyd got the start on the mound and the no decision as he went 5 1/3 innings.

Brooks Brown went the final 2/3 of an inning and recorded one strikeout and the win.

For Brewton batting, Floyd was 1-for-4 with one RBI and McDonald was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

Cooper was 1-for-2 with a homerun and one RBI and Kellyn Winn was 1-for-2 with a double. Lucas was 1-for-2 in the win for Brewton.

Opp 8, Brewton 3

In the deciding championship game for the Brewton 11-12 Little League All Stars Wednesday in Opp, Opp used a five-run second inning to defeat Brewton 8-3.

Brewton finished as runner-up in the tournament.

With the loss, Brewton finished 3-2 in the tournament, winning three straight after losing to Opp in the opening round of the tournament Saturday.

Brewton defeated Escambia County, Evergreen and Opp Tuesday night after the opening loss before falling to Opp Wednesday.

Brewton came out in the game hot Wednesday as they scored three first inning runs, but that would be all the runs they would muster in the game as Opp scored eight unanswered to win the game and take the championship.

After a leadoff out to start the game, Brewton used a ground rule double from Jake Najor and back-to-back singles from Trippe Floyd and Ethan Tyree to take a 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning.

Opp would cut the Brewton lead to 3-1 after one inning of play and after holding Brewton scoreless in the top of the second and the remainder of the game, used a five-run second inning, all with two outs, to be the difference in the game.

In the inning, Opp used four hits: a three-run double to take a 4-3 lead and a two-run homerun to take a 6-3 lead over Brewton.

Opp would later score one run in the third inning and one in the fifth inning to take an 8-3 lead into the top of the sixth inning and be three outs from the title.

After Brewton’s leadoff batter Kellyn Winn was hit-by-pitch, Opp turned a double play and got the third out on a strikeout for the win.

Jared Cooper took the loss on the mound for Brewton as he went four innings and allowed eight runs, six earned, six hits, walked four and struck out eight.

Brooks Brown went the final inning and struck out one.

For Brewton at the bat, Najor was 1-for-3 with a double and Floyd led the way going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double.

Ethan Tyree was 1-for-3 with one RBI and Winn was 1-for-2.

Brewton had six hits in the game to Opp’s six and both teams made two errors in the game.

Brewton left five runners on base while Opp left three.

Brewton’s 11-12 all stars included: Brooks Brown, Jared Cooper, Trippe Floyd, Tyler Hoomes, Jonathon Lucas, Timothy McDonald, Jake Najor, Ethan Tyree, Kellyn Winn, and Grant Youngblood.

Robbie Floyd served as manager and Lew Najor as the coach.
