Drug task force seeks suspect

When a Pollard man failed to check in regularly with Escambia County Community Corrections officials, they had permission to search his home.

What they found has resulted in multiple narcotics charges — but suspect Dennis “Kellum” Crosby Jr., 33, of Jordan Landing Road, is nowhere to be found, law enforcement officials said.

Steve Hardy, Community Corrections officer, said Crosby violated a community corrections order that resulted in the search of his home by agents from Community Corrections and the drug task force.

“When he violated the order I went to check on him,” Hardy said. “I asked officers with the Sheriff’s Department and the Drug Task Force to go to the residence.”

Hardy said Crosby had signed a search/seizure form when placed in Community Corrections and a search was executed at the home.

DTF Commander Geoff McGraw said multiple narcotics were seized at the residence on Jordan Landing Road in Pollard.

“We called Brewton Police Department and requested a drug dog be brought to the residence,” McGraw said. “We found crack and powder cocaine at the residence. We had heard he might be involved in some illegal narcotic activity and made the search.”

Escambia County Chief Deputy Mike Lambert said warrants for his arrest were being obtained Friday immediately after the seizure.

“Crosby was not at the residence at the time of the search and discovery of the narcotics,” Lambert said. “We are in the process of obtaining warrants for his arrest.”

Hardy said Crosby had been in the Community Corrections program on previous narcotics charges for about 18 months prior to Friday’s discovery.

Lambert said anyone with information on Crosby’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department, the 21st Judicial Drug Task Force or Community Corrections.

“We hope that Mr. Crosby will turn himself in to officers,” Lambert said Friday. “However, if anyone knows his whereabouts they should contact any of our officers.”
