Two sports at Jefferson Davis Community College are adding recruits for their upcoming 2010-2011 seasons.

JDCC baseball coach Darrell Blevins and Allen Gainer have been hitting the recruiting trails hard and have the signees to show for it.

Baseball:

After a 17-30 overall record this past spring and an 11-17 conference record, Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball coach Darrell Blevins is making big strides in recruiting for next spring.

With 11 returning sophomores from the 2010 season, Blevins has 16 total recruits already inked with spots for a few more.

Of the 16 new recruits, six are from Alabama, eight from Florida, one from Mississ-ippi, and one from Missouri. Of the eight from Florida, five players are from the same high school (Tate). One new recruit is T.R. Miller and Brewton’s Wes Dickey.

“We will return 11 sophomores from the 2010 season,” Blevins said. “Those sophomores include; Tyler Walker from Clarke County, Robbie Jernigan from Pine Forest, Matthew Watkins and Stephen Scoggins from Leroy, Ryne Drummonds from Sylacauga, Maurice Leverett from Washington County, Cody Vickrey from Flomaton, Shelby Jordan from Excel, Bill Hamrick from Eufaula, and Xavier Cunningham from Jeff Davis High School in Montgomery.”

Newcomers to the Warhawks for the 2010-2011 season will include Evan Richardson from Luverne, Brandon Blackwelder, Joey Hedden, Tyler Moore, Cole Vickery, and Lee Hunter from Tate High School in Florida, Stuart Todd from Catholic High School in Pensacola, Nathan Edwards from Beauregard, Benny Britton from Wetumpka, Jeremy Barnes from Milton, Jordan Creel from Alabama Christian, Corey Thompson from Polk Community College in Lakeland, Fla., Wes Dickey from T. R. Miller, Coty Creech from Greene County, Mississippi, Jacob Dean from Baldwin County, and Dustin Bickmeyer from Wentzville Timberland High School in Wentzville, Mo.

“We are very close to being through with our recruiting efforts for the 2010-2011 school year,” Blevins said. “I am still talking with and watching a few players in consideration of them joining the program before we start practice in early August. A couple of scholarships are still yet to be filled but have been offered out and we are waiting for a reply or we are looking to fill a specific need at this point.”

Basketball:

Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk basketball coach Allen Gainer has added four more basketball signees to his 2010-2011 recruiting class.

The four recruits signed by Gainer come from Georgia, Louisiana, and two from Alabama.

Joining the Warhaws is Kahlee Tyler, 5-10 point guard from Columbus, Ga.

“Kahlee has outstanding court awareness and vision,” Gainer said. “He scores well.”

Turmonte Ragland, a 5-10 combo guard, is from Millbrook.

“He is a slashing scorer and is very good at getting to the rim,” Gainer said.

Daryl Duncan, another 5-10 combo guard, is from Mobile.

“He is one of the best shooters we’ve every signed at JDCC,” Gainer said.

Joshua Fealing, a 6-5 center from Baton Rouge, La., rounds out the new recruits coming to Brewton.

“Long’s wingspan lets him block shots and rebound better than his height suggests,” Gainer said.

These recruits join earlier Warhawk basketball recruits Derell Washington, Brandon Scott, Braylon Lazare, Eric Vidrine, Gabriel Rice, and Chris Peak for the 2010-2010 Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk basketball season.
