Schools hold orientation, open house

With school bells ready to ring Monday morning, area schools are getting a head start in welcoming students and parents back to campuses this week.

Beginning Thursday afternoon, local schools have planned open house and orientation events that will allow new and returning students an opportunity to get into the school before the first day of class Aug. 9.

At T.R. Miller High School, new students and incoming freshmen will have an opportunity Thursday afternoon to meet school faculty and staff during a special session set for 12:45 p.m. in the school’s auditorium. Schedules may be picked up at that time. Any questions regarding the school should be directed to school staff by calling 867-8430.

All three schools in the W.S. Neal school system will host open house events Friday, Aug. 6 beginning at 2 p.m. The open house will conclude at 5 p.m. for W.S. Neal Middle and Elementary Schools with a 4 p.m. end set at W.S. Neal High School.

Students will have an opportunity to deliver school supplies to their schools as well as receive locker assignments and greet teachers for the year. For information concerning W.S. Brewton Middle School will be holding a brief open house to introduce parents and students to staff members Sunday, Aug. 8 beginning at 2 p.m. in the media center. An overview of procedures for Monday will also be discussed at that time. For additional information on Brewton Middle School, contact the school office at 867-8420.

Brewton Elementary School will not hold any special orientation or open house for the 2010-2011 school year. However, any questions about school policies, procedures or scheduling may be addressed to school personnel by calling 867-8410.
