Pink Pirates postpone event

The gala event planned Saturday as a fundraiser by the Pink Pirates in Brewton has been postponed according to group chairwoman Sharon Peacock.

“We really hate to have to call this event off for now,” Peacock said. “The timing just wasn’t on our side and ticket sales were not what we had hoped. There is a chance that we will try to reschedule this event for sometime in October.”

Peacock said an October event would be timely planning since the month has been set aside as Breast Cancer Awareness month.

“October is always Breast Cancer Awareness Month so planning an event for then would bring even more attention to the cause,” Peacock said. “We are hoping to put together something fun for everyone that will bring in donations to help fund research, cures and treatments for breast cancer.”

The 18-member Pink Pirate group had joined together in June to help raise funds for the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” campaign. The campaign will culminate with a walking event set for Oct. 30 in Mobile.

“We are still going to do what we can to raise funds for the American Cancer Society,” Peacock said. “We are also still welcoming members to the Pink Pirate group.”

Anyone interested in making a donation can make checks payable to The American Cancer Society and mail them to Peacock at P.O. Box 381, Brewton, AL 36427. For additional information on events planned by the Pink Pirates or to join the group, contact Peacock by calling 809-4845.
