A new doctor will soon join the ranks at Brewton Medical Center — and she will set up her practice in a new office space dedicated to pediatrics.
Dr. Ashley Davis will join Dr. Marina Thompson Sept. 7 in the new expanded pediatric pod to be located across the hall from the obstetric offices.
Dr. Davis comes to Brewton from Memphis, Tenn. She is a native of Mobile, graduating from Le Flore High School. She attended Alabama State University in Montgomery and went to med school at the University of Louisville, Ken. She did her residency in Memphis, Tenn., and she has chosen to come to Brewton to begin her practice.
“I am very excited to be opening a practice and being close to home,” Davis said. “It will be good to be able to practice here in Brewton and I am looking forward to it.”
Thompson said the new office space will better serve patients.
“We need more space for all the children that come to see the doctor,” Thompson said. “We also want to have a separate waiting room for children who are actually sick, from the waiting room where children are well and only come for checkups, shots and prevention of more serious illnesses.”
Medical Center director Victor Hunt said he was glad to see another doctor join the staff.
“This arrangement will work out very well here,” Hunt said. “We will have another doctor to take on the job of keeping our children healthy. We will be able to see patients quicker. I think this will be an asset for the community.”
The doctors both said they think it will be ideal to work together and share the space.
Thompson said she is excited about the new arrangement. Not only will they be working together, but she and Davis will each have someone to cover for them when one has to be out of the office.
“I am looking forward to it,” Thompson said. “I think it will be good for both patients and us. The new offices are being painted right now, and we hope to have everything ready by the opening date when we start seeing patients.”
