The 2010 W.S. Neal Lady Eagle volleyball team started off their season with a sweep of area opponent Thomasville Thursday on the road.

Lady Eagle head coach Britney Shelly said her girls did a good job in the win and it was a “great” win against Thomasville.

“We got  a little sloppy in set two but pulled it off and looked excellent in set three,” Shelly said. “We played excellent in the first set only allowing nine points. During this set I feel our players picked Thomasville’s defense apart by dropping the ball in the gaps for points.”

Shelly said during the second set, her team became too relaxed and strayed away from what worked during the first set.

“We started playing sloppy but were able to compose ourselves and pull off the win,” Shelly said. “We improved a lot during the third set but serving hurt us. I think overall our players did well on both offense and defense. I think this was an excellent way to begin our season and our area play.”

W.S. Neal (1-0 overall, 1-0 in area play) will be back in action Tuesday on the road when they take on Pleasant Home.

The middle school Lady Eagles will begin play at 4 p.m. followed by the JV’s match. The varsity will finish the evenings lineup.
