Youngblood leads in BMS win

In a middle school Battle of Murder Creek Thursday in East Brewton, Brewton Middle School downed W.S. Neal 24-12.

The win for Brewton improved them to 2-0 while W.S. Neal fell to 0-1 in their first game.

The seventh grade team played one quarter of action to start things off and Brewton won 16-0 behind 110 yards of total offense (all on the ground) and holding the Eagles to -21.

Grant Youngblood led Brewton with four carries for 88 yards and two touchdowns.

In the eighth grade game, Brewton held a 16-6 halftime lead with one touchdown each in the first two quarters while W.S. Neal scored in the second.

Neither team scored in the third quarter, but Brewton outscored W.S. Neal 8-6 in the fourth quarter to win by 12.

Brewton had 238 total yards of offense with 208 on the ground and 30 in the air while the Eagles had 150 yards total with 132 on the ground and 18 in the air.

McHenry Coleman led Brewton with 15 carries for 127 yards and two touchdowns while Youngblood had 48 yards on three carries and one touchdown.

Jones Manning was a perfect 3-for-3 passing with 30 yards.

For W.S. Neal, Quantae Barksdale led with 111 yards on 14 carries. Trey Taylor had a 12-yard touchdown for the Eagles and Miles Powell tossed an 8-yard touchdown to Ty Alexander with one second left in the game.
