Escambia County Sheriff’s officials are continuing an investigation into the death of a truck driver in the Wallace community Wednesday morning.

William Stanley King, 62, of Jay, Fla., was found unresponsive near the tanker truck he drove for the Genesis Crude Oil Truck Line from Jay, according to officials.

Escambia County Chief Deputy Mike Lambert said dispatchers received a call just before 10 a.m. reporting the unresponsive King at the Prewett Production location on County Road 40 in Wallace.

“A call came into our office just before 10 a.m. reporting that a man had been found lying unresponsive near a tanker truck at the well site,” Lambert said. “According to records concerning King’s work, he had arrived at the site sometime between 6 and 6:30 a.m. Witnesses at the site reported finding him there around 9:45 a.m. and they made the call.”

Lambert said there is no indication of foul play surrounding the incident, however, an investigation is continuing.

“The medical examiner will be able to give us some information after his examination is complete,” Lambert said. “The body will then e sent to Mobile to the Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.”

Lambert said earlier concerns of hydrogen sulfide being present in the area where King’s death occurred was ruled out as probable cause in the case.

“This well had no history of hydrogen sulfide leaking,” Lambert said. “Again we are basically ruling out any airborne materials being responsible for this death.”

Lambert said officers with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department responded to the call. Other agencies responding included the Wallace, Barnett Crossroads and Pineview Volunteer Fire Departments and D.W. McMillan Ambulance Service.
