Mrs. Jean S. Thompson, 76, of Brewton, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at a local nursing facility after an extended illness.

Mrs. Thompson was a native and lifelong resident of the Brewton area. She was a member of the 1950 graduating class at W.S. Neal High School, and was a homemaker. She was a member of Wallace Baptist Church. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her parents, Clark & Dessie Steele; a daughter, Pat Gideons; a brother, Clifford Steele; and a grandson, Aaron Gideons.

She is survived by her husband, Mr. Donald Thompson of Brewton; two sons, Bob (Debbie) Smith of Camp LeJeune, N.C., and Donald Thompson of Brewton; two brothers, Robert “Bones” (Martie) Steele of Brewton, and Jimmy (Kay) Steele of Mobile; one sister, Opal (Floyd) Smith of Brewton; a sister-in-law, Ruby Steele; seven grandchildren, Steven Hastings, Kristin Smith, Destinee Thompson, Samantha Thompson, Gabbi Solomon, Kaleigh Thompson and Jordann Thompson; one great-grandchild, Hayden Smith; 14 nieces and nephews; 22 great nieces and nephews; and two great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with the Rev. James Aubrey Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Dixonville Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Craver’s Funeral Home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
