At the Gulf Coast Cross Country Stampede race Saturday in Pensacola, the T.R. Miller girls placed sixth in the elite race and the boys placed 16th in the overall race.

“The girls did really well,” T.R. Miller cross country coach Rob Atkinson said. “We finished sixth out of 16 teams. You had to have a time of 23:30 to even get in the race for an overall team time.

“Karisa (Nelson) finished second, Shelby (Youngblood) finished 23rd and Katie (Nelson) finished in 32nd place. They did well. We are seeing some improvements in some places. Amber Nelson also ran a really great race and Amber Terry is improving some so we are getting better. We still have a long way to go to get to our goal but we are getting better.”

Atkinson said the boys are showing improvement and actually have a shot at making state as a team.

“That is our goal right now for the boys to make the state meet,” Atkinson said. “They are improving each time and will continue to improve, as the weather gets cooler. Overall, I was pleased.”

Karisa Nelson placed second overall and first for the Lady Tigers with a time of 18:59.30 and Youngblood placed 23rd with a time of 21:05.50. Katie Nelson’s time of 21:26.60 earned her 32nd place and Amber Nelson finished 43rd with a time of 21:51.10.

Amber Terry placed 84th with a time of 24:21.70 and Katie Baggett placed 99th with a time of 25:32.30.
