TRM volleyball sweeps WSN Monday; TRM JV and WSNMS also win

T.R. Miller’s Lady Tiger varsity team and JV team and W.S. Neal Middle School all recorded wins Monday in East Brewton in a volleyball version of the Battle of Murder Creek.

All three winning teams posted sweeps Monday with T.R. Miller winning 3-0 over W.S. Neal in varsity action, T.R. Miller’s JV team winning 2-0 and W.S. Neal Middle School defeating Brewton Middle School 2-0.

W.S. Neal Middle Schools won 25-21 and 25-11 over Brewton while T.R. Miller’s JV team won 25-14 and 25-18.

In the varsity match, T.R. Miller won 25-15, 25-15, and 25-14.

With the wins, W.S. Neal Middle improved to 5-2 while Brewton ended their season 6-2. T.R. Miller’s JV team improved to 3-3 while W.S. Neal dropped to 6-3 and T.R. Miller’s varsity team improved to 11-5. With the loss, W.S. Neal dropped to 3-7, but record of the Northview tournament was not known as of press time along with varsity stats for W.S. Neal were not known as of press time.

W.S. Neal MS 2, BMS 0

W.S. Neal Middle School sent Brewton Middle School’s Lady Tigers on a two-game losing streak to end their season Monday at home.

In set one, W.S. Neal rallied from being down 7-3 to take a 10-7 lead. With the game tied at 16-16, W.S. Neal went on top 19-16 and after a 19-19 tie, outscored Brewton 6-2 for the win.

Ashlyn Lambeth led with seven service points in game one and one ace for W.S. Neal and Brittany Warren led Brewton with three service points and one kill.

In game two, W.S. Neal jumped out to a 12-1, 13-2, and 20-4 lead to get the win 25-11.

Tykeria Nolan led the Lady Eagles with 10 service points and Morgan Manning led Brewton with four points.

“The girls had a great season,” BMS head coach Kim Owens said. “Not the way we would have liked to finish it but they played good volleyball all season and worked hard everyday at practice and that’s all we ask them to do.”

TRM JV 2, W.S. Neal 0

After losing to W.S. Neal earlier in the season at home, the JV Lady Tigers claimed a 2-0 win over the Lady Eagles Monday in East Brewton.

T.R. Miller won 25-14 and 25-18.

In set one, T.R. Miller held early leads of 5-1, 10-2 and 13-5 before getting the 11-point win.

Jerrica Watson led T.R. Miller in the set one win with nine service points and two kills.

Marissa White led W.S. Neal with three points in the loss.

In set two, a 13-3 T.R. Miller lead was cut to 13-10 and 16-13 before T.R. Miller ended the match on a 9-5 run to get the win 25-18.

Lauren Ward led T.R. Miller in the win with 10 service points and four assists while Watson had nine points and three kills. Gracee Dixon led W.S. Neal in the loss with four service points, one ace and one kill.

“I’m extremely proud of our JV tonight,” Lady Tiger head coach Greg White said. “They have lost a few close games this season and our goal was to come out tonight and play focused and play for T.R. Miller and not ourselves. We jumped ahead early in each game and we never let up and I appreciate that. Tonight was our last JV match of the season so to go out with the win was good for these girls. They have worked very hard since we started this summer and tonight was a good was to finish it up.”

TRM varsity 3, W.S. Neal 0

In the varsity match, T.R. Miller won 25-15 in sets one and two and took set three 25-14.

Taylor Guthrie led T.R. Miller with seven service points and four kills and Natalie Neal had six service points and four kills. Leigh Margaret Bostic had five service points and three kills and Leah Brundidge had seven assists all in set one.

In set two, Guthrie head six service points and four kills, Emily Waters have five service points and two kills. Bostic had five service points and four kills and Elizabeth Nelson had eight assists.

In game three, Brundidge had nine service points and eight assists and Guthrie had five points and five kills.

“We came focused tonight and ready to play,” White said. “We were able to get ahead early in each game and that was big for us. Our serving still has some room for improvement but overall we did a nice job there.”

T.R. Miller was set to take on Bayside Academy and Washington County in a tri-match Tuesday and will be back in action Thursday at home against Monroe County in a varsity only match at 4:30 p.m.

W.S. Neal will take on Atmore Thursday in Atmore at 4:30 p.m. in a varsity only match as well.
