Mrs. Lillie Sylvia Whitacre Ray, 83, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, in a local hospital after a brief illness. She was a native of Toledo, Ohio, and a former resident of Arizona before moving to Brewton. She was a Jehovah Witness and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Foy “Hot Shot” Ray Sr.; a daughter, Barbara Ray Johnson and a niece, Mamie Godwin.

She is survived by four sons, Foy (Wanda) Ray Jr. of East Brewton, Roy (Peggy) Ray of Indiana, Michael (Connie) Ray of North Carolina, and Allen (Sandy) Ray of Phenix City; three daughters, Sharon (Bill) Thompson of Baton Rouge, La., and Pattie (Billy) Thompson and Donna Ray, both of Brewton; two brothers, Lawrence Whitacre and Paul Whitacre, both of California; two sisters, Cleo Fahle and Alwilda Becker, both of Brewton; and 23 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. at Kingdom Hall with Brother Allen Ray officiating and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
