For the sixth straight year in a row, and every year since the tournament has started, the T.R. Miller Lady Tiger volleyball captured the Escambia County Tournament championship Saturday in Flomaton.

The Lady Tigers swept all three county teams winning 2-0 over Escambia County, Flomaton and W.S. Neal.

Flomaton (2-1) placed second in the tournament followed by W.S. Neal (1-2) and Escambia County (0-3).

Against Escambia County, T.R. Miller won 25-5 in sets one and two and against Flomaton, T.R. Miller won 25-23 and 25-21.

Against W.S. Neal, T.R. Miller won 25-14 and 25-9.

With the wins, T.R. Miller improved their overall record to 17-7.

“I thought we came out and played with great focus and intensity today,” T.R. Miller Lady Tiger head coach Greg White said. “We knew that it wasn’t going to be an easy day so we had prepared ourselves for that. Overall we had a great week of practice leading up to the tournament and I think the way we played today reflected that. It wasn’t perfect but we really got after it out there.”

As for another Escambia County tournament win?

“These girls have great work ethic and practice habits and as I have said before they are a pleasure to coach,” White said. “Having won the county tournament for now the sixth year in a row is a great accomplishment for them and something that each of them will definitely remember about their high school volleyball career.”

T.R. Miller was set to play Clarke County at 4:30 p.m. Monday in the area tournament at Bayside. With a win, T.R. Miller would take on Bayside for the area championship and advance to the regional tournament.

In the first game of the Escambia County tournament Saturday in Flomaton, T.R. Miller defeated Escambia County 25-5 in sets one and two.

In game one, Taylor Guthrie led with 11 service points and four kills with Natalie Neal having eight service points. Leah Brundidge and Guthrie both had seven service points in game two.

In the regular season, T.R. Miller and Flomaton split their matches with both teams winning on their home courts.

Saturday, T.R. Miller claimed a 2-0 win over Flomaton to take the overall series winning defeating Flomaton 25-23 and 25-21.

In set one, with the game tied late at 20-20, T.R. Miller went on top 23-20 before Flomaton tied the game at 23-23.

From there, T.R. Miller scored the final two points to win 25-23.

Elizabeth Nelson led T.R. Miller with seven service points.

In game two, T.R. Miller led 18-14, but fell behind 20-18 before taking a 23-20 lead.

From there, T.R. Miller won 25-21.

Emily Waters led T.R. Miller with five service points in the win.

T.R. Miller 2, W.S. Neal 0

Needing a win over rival W.S. Neal to clinch their sixth straight title, T.R. Miller won 25-14 and 25-9 for the championship.

In game one against W.S. Neal, Taylor Guthrie led with six kills, an ace and two service points while Leah Brundidge had nine service points.

Paige Grantham led the Lady Eagles with three service points including one ace.

In game two, Waters led T.R. Miller with 13 straight service points for the win while Whitney Douglas led W.S. Neal with three service points.

W.S. Neal fell to 7-15 overall with their 1-2 performance in the tournament.
