WSN now accepting applications for football job

With the recent resignation of W.S. Neal head football coach and athletic director Kevin Jordan, W.S. Neal High School principal Patty Frazier says she has a plan of action to make the hire for the school’s next coach.

“At this time, we are accepting applications through Dec. 6,” Frazier said. “At the point, we will certainly be pre-screening the applications as they come in, but then we will set up a small committee of three to five members to interview the potential candidates and applicants. If I feel like I have found the right person, I will then make my decision and present it to the committee and board.”

Frazier said she hopes to have a hire before the end of the first semester.

“That is the plan, but if I don’t have someone I like, I will continue to search for the right person.”

Jordan, who coached as defensive coordinator with the Eagles since 2005, became head coach in 2009 for the Eagles. He went 2-8 in his first season and went 0-10 this past season.

“I have enjoyed having the opportunity to coach these kids,” Jordan said Monday. “It was a great group of kids. I love them very much. That will never change. I obviously regret that we did not win more football games, but I regret that for the kids. I wanted them to be successful and I wanted them to enjoy the fruits of winning. Those kids worked hard. I wanted them to come off that field with victory.”

Jordan will remain a teacher at the school but said he will look at other opportunities in the future.
