BMS basketball sweeps WSNMS

Both the Brewton Middle School girls and boys basketball teams edged out W.S. Neal Middle School’s teams by three points to pick up wins Monday in Brewton.

The BMS girls edged out W.S. Neal Middle School 26-23 while the BMS boys edged out W.S. Neal 28-25.

With the win for Brewton, the Lady Tigers improved to 4-0 while W.S. Neal’s girls dropped to 0-3.

Brewton’s boys improved to 2-2 while W.S. Neal’s boys fell to 0-3.

BMS Lady Tigers 26, WSNMS 23

Brewton used a 10-5 advantage in the third quarter to pick up the three-point win Monday night over W.S. Neal.

W.S. Neal’s Lady Eagles held a 6-4 lead after the first quarter and a 9-8 lead at halftime as Brewton had a 4-3 advantage in the second quarter.

Trailing by one, Brewton outscored W.S. Neal 10-5 in the third quarter to take an 18-14 lead heading into the fourth.

In the fourth, W.S. Neal edged out Brewton 9-8, but Brewton held on for the win.

Tempest Thompson led Brewton with 18 points and Tikeria Powell had four points. Emonea Curry and Shakira Nicholson both had two points in the win.

For W.S. Neal, Kiki Floyd led with 16 points followed by three from Me’Khia Williams, and two points each from Katelyn Millican and Alexis Morrison.

BMS Tigers 28, WSNMS 25

In boys action Monday night, Brewton Middle School’s boys had to fight off a late Eagle rally to win 28-25.

Brewton led 10-6 after the first quarter and after an 11-6 advantage in the second quarter, held a 21-12 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, W.S. Neal cut the lead to 23-20 with an 8-2 scoring advantage in the quarter. Both teams would score five points each in the fourth quarter as Brewton claimed the win.

Trae Walker led Brewton with 13 points followed by five points each from Kellyn Winn and Chardian Johnson. Jones Manning had three points and Traderick Jones had two points.

For W.S. Neal, Quantae Barksdale led with 10 points and Malcolm Hawthorne added eight points.

Trey Taylor had three points and Andre Womack and Rob Jones had two points each.
