Brewton swim team competes at Auburn

The Brewton Local Area Swim Team recently traveled to Auburn University and competed in the 30th Annual war Eagle Invitational.

The team, under coaches Angel Boyd and Brandee Morris finished fifth out of 12 teams participating in the meet overall and second out of 12 teams in the 10-and-under boys division.

Tigersharks attending the meet were Colby Morris, Cole Jernigan, Rider Jernigan, Anna Brown, Sailor Smith, Micah Flores, Payton Baxter and Mac Baxter.

“The 10-and-under boys did an amazing job finishing second as a team overall and scoring 475 points over two days,” Boyd said. “The 10-and-under boys medley relay team of Mac Baxter, 8, Micah Flores, 9, Colby Morris, 9, and Cole Jernigan, 8, won first place as the fastest 10-and-under boys medley relay at the meet.”

Colby Morris, son of Brandee Morris, finished in the top 16 and trophied, placing seventh overall.

Cole Jernigan, son of Lee and Felicia Jernigan, finished in the top 16 and trophied, placing 12th overall.

Micah Flores, son of Roberto and Kim Flores, a newcomer to the team, who has only been swimming since August, finished in the top 20, placing 18th overall.

Sailor Smith, daughter of Brandy and Chad Smith, finished in the top 35 overall, out of 76, 10-and-under girls.

Anna Brown, as well as Payton and Mac Baxter also swam great, only swimming one day of the meet and finishing in the top 16.

The Tigersharks traveled to Montgomery this past weekend to compete in the Buckmasters Invitational swim meet.

“I am very proud of my swimmers and look forward to and amazing ‘Short Course Season’ for the Tigersharks,” Boyd said.
