The United Fund of Brewton and East Brewton’s fundraising drive of 2011 is in full swing.

“We are well under way,” United Fund board member Mark Manning said. “We have reached 75 percent of our goal, which is $80,000. We need another $19,000 to go to reach our goal. We need the community support to help us out with this.”

The fund will help support 17 local agencies which reach just about every demographic in Brewton and East Brewton, young and old.

Manning said he hopes as many residents as possible will be able to give something to the fund.

“Any amount, small or large, is appreciated,” he said. “It all reaches the $80,000 when added together.”

One of the most important aspects of United Fund donations is that they stay in Brewton and East Brewton, Manning said.

“All money stays local,” Manning said. “Of the money given, 99 percent stays local and goes back into the community to help our agencies.”

Agencies include the Brewton Area YMCA, the American Red Cross-East Escambia County Chapter, the Girls Scouts-Deep South Council, Brewton Public Library, Escambia County Community Enabled, Inc., Escambia County Regional Child Advocacy Center, Brewton Parks and Recreation, Escambia County Mental Health Association, Boy Scouts-Gulf Coast Council, East Brewton Youth Sports, Southwest Alabama Mental Health/Mental Retardation Board, Wheels of Wellness, Escambia County Cooperative Library System, Alabama Cooperative Extension System, Disabled Children and Adults-Brewton Chapter, Hope Place Family Resource and the Christian Benevolent Fund.

The United Fund gives more than 99 cents of every dollar it raises to the agencies. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 31. Donations can be sent to: United Fund, P.O. Box 34, Brewton, Alabama, 36427.
