In a Tuesday middle school basketball version of the Battle of Murder Creek, the Brewton Middle School basketball teams finished a season sweep against W.S. Neal.
The Lady Tigers of Brewton defeated W.S. Neal 31-23 while the Brewton Middle School boys defeated W.S. Neal 29-22.
With the wins for Brewton, the Lady Tigers, after suffering their first loss Monday, improved to 7-1 while W.S. Neal, after getting their first win in their last game, fell to 1-6. The Brewton Middle School boys improved their win streak to five games and their overall record to 6-2 while W.S. Neal ended their three game win streak and dropped to 3-4.
W.S. Neal was set to be back in action Wednesday at home as they took on Jay and will return to action Tuesday, Dec. 7, at home against McCall at 1 p.m.
Brewton’s teams will be back in action Monday, Dec. 6, as they travel to McCall for a 6 p.m. girls tip and a 7 p.m. boys tip.

BMS Lady Tigers 31, WSNMS Lady Eagles 23
Tempest Thompson poured in a game-high 18 points for Brewton as they took down the Lady Eagles of W.S. Neal Middle School 31-23 Tuesday in East Brewton.
Thompson was one of three Brewton scorers in the win as she edged out leading Lady Eagle scorer Kiki Floyd’s 14 points.
W.S. Neal held an 8-5 advantage over Brewton after the first quarter of play, but in the second quarter Brewton held a 12-5 advantage in the quarter to take a 17-13 lead in at halftime.
In the third quarter, W.S. Neal cut the Lady Tiger lead to 21-17 with 3:12 left, but Brewton would use a 6-0 run to hold a 27-17 lead with 1:35 left in the quarter. W.S. Neal would get the final three points of the quarter as Brewton held a 27-20 lead heading into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, W.S. Neal would carry a 6-0 run from the third quarter into the fourth to cut the lead to 27-23 with 5:30 left in the game, but Brewton would outscore the Lady Eagles 4-3 in the fourth quarter to get the eight-point win.
With Thompson’s 18 points for Brewton, Shakira Nicholson added 10 points and Emonae Curry chipped in three points.
For W.S. Neal, Floyd led with 14 points and Me’Khia Williams added three points. Katelyn Millican, Alyssa English, and Alexis Morrison all had two points in the loss.
Brewton did not attempt a free throw in the win while W.S. Neal was 3-for-6 from the line.

BMS Tigers 29, WSNMS Eagles 22
In boys middle school action Tuesday, one team saw their win streak extend to five games while the other saw theirs end as Brewton edged out W.S. Neal 29-22.
Brewton saw their win streak grow to five games while W.S. Neal saw their win streak end at three with seven-point loss.
In the game Tuesday, Brewton held a 7-3 lead over the Eagles after the first quarter and extended their lead to 18-5 at halftime following an 11-2 advantage in the second quarter.
Brewton used a 9-0 run in the second quarter to help aid in the 13-point halftime lead.
In the third quarter, W.S. Neal came out firing on all cylinders as they used a 7-0 run in the quarter and an 11-3 advantage overall to cut the lead to five points at 21-16 heading into the fourth quarter.
With their lead down to five points, Brewton would go on to outscore the Eagles 8-6 in the fourth quarter to get the seven-point win.
Brewton shot 3-for-4 from the free throw line in the win while W.S. Neal shot 2-for-17.
The Tigers had six scorers in the win with Chardian Johnson leading the way with eight points. Johnson had two of Brewton’s four 3-pointers in the win.
Trae Walker followed Johnson with seven points and Trin Miller, Traderik Jones and McHenry Coleman all had four points each in the win. Kellyn Winn added two points for Brewton.
For W.S. Neal Middle School, D.J. Hodges had a game high 13 points with seven coming in the third quarter for the Eagles.
Trey Taylor had five points and Andre Womack and Quantae Barksdale both having two points in the loss.
