In their first home game of the season Monday and just the second overall game of the B-team and varsity and fifth for the Lady Tigers, T.R. Miller’s basketball teams went 1-2 against Hillcrest.
The T.R. Miller Lady Tigers were the only team to come away with a win as they posted a 73-39 win over Hillcrest to improve to 3-2 while the B-team lost 34-26 to fall to 0-2.
The varsity Tigers lost 56-36 to the No. 4 Jaguars in class 4A to drop their record to 0-2 as well.
T.R. Miller will take on W.S. Neal Saturday at home starting at 4:30 p.m.

Hillcrest 34, T.R. Miller B-team 26
In the first half, the T.R. Miller Tiger B-team was cruising along. Then came the second half that saw the Tigers give up a 10-point halftime lead and lose by eight points to Hillcrest, 34-26.
T.R. Miller jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and lead 7-4 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Tigers went on a 10- run to lead 15-4 with 3:16 left before the half and lead 18-8 at the half.
In the third quarter, T.R. Miller was outscored 16-4 to trail 24-22 heading into the fourth quarter and was outscored 10-4 in the fourth to get their second loss. Overall, T.R. Miller was outscored 26-8 in the second half.
Shawn Tolbert led T.R. Miller with nine points and Caleb Hubbard added eight. Dominique Jackson had seven and Abdiel Arauz had two.
T.R. Miller shot 1-for-5 from the free throw line in the loss while Hillcrest was 6-for-12.

TRM Lady Tigers 73, Hillcrest 39
Despite only dressing seven players to Hillcrest’s 14, the Lady Tigers rolled to a big win over Hillcrest by 34 points.
The Lady Tigers used a 17-0 run in the first quarter to hold a 22-6 lead after one quarter of play to aid in the win.
The Lady Tigers outscored Hillcrest 18-14 in the second quarter to lead 40-20 at the half.
In the third, the Lady Tigers outscored Hillcrest 17-11 to take a 57-31 lead into the fourth before outscoring the Lady Jaguars 16-8 in the final quarter to get the win. The Lady Tigers had a 13-0 run over the third and fourth quarter.
All but one Lady Tiger scored in the win with Sha Kiser leading with 25 points. Leah Brundidge added 18 points and Courtney Jones had 15 to round out the Lady Tigers in double figures.
Adrian Gibbs had nine points and LaTeysia Montgomery had four points. Taylor Guthrie added two points in the win for T.R. Miller.
“Sha Kiser had an exceptional game,” T.R. Miller Lady Tiger head coach Ron Jackson said. “She had a great game shooting. We have been working on our shooting as of late. We had a couple of players that did not play tonight, but we will be all right. We just have nine players but they are some hardworking nine players. You don’t need but five of them if they can get it done. I think they did an excellent job. Courtney (Jones) did an excellent job inside. Leah (Brundidge) shot the ball well and handled the ball well and ran the point well. I am just proud of the way they played.”
T.R. Miller shot 9-of-20 from the free throw line while Hillcrest was 5-for-12 for a combined 14-for-32.

Hillcrest 56, T.R. Miller varsity 36
Couple five total wins over the past two seasons and one game into the third season against the No. 4 team in the state and the outcome usually will not turn out to good.
That was the case for T.R. Miller’s varsity Tigers Monday night at home as they lost to the Jaguars of Hillcrest 56-36 to drop their record to 0-2.
T.R. Miller fell to a 9-0 run for Hillcrest in the first quarter to trail 19-5 after one quarter of play and then was outscored 20-10 in the second quarter to trail 39-15 at the half.
Of the 39 points for Hillcrest in the first half, 10 came off of big dunks.
In the third quarter, T.R. Miller was outscored 14-5 to trail by 33 points, 53-20, heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, T.R. Miller final put the combination of good offense and defense together as they outscored Hillcrest 16-3 including a 16-0 run at one point in the quarter to lose by 20.
Of the 16-0 run in the fourth for T.R. Miller, Mark Bryant had 10 straight points.
T.R. Miller was 3-for-4 from the free throw line while Hillcrest was 12-for-19.
“Well, playing these first couple of ballgames is like the girls going to Pensacola,” Jackson said. “We need that. A lot of times, you go into practice and you work on these things that you know you need to be doing, but the kids don’t necessarily buy in to it. A lot of times they have their own thoughts of how to get it done and then you have to do that to show them that if you do it the way we worked on it, things will work out pretty good. And if you don’t, it will not be a good outcome.”
Jackson said despite the 20-point loss, he thinks his team learned some lessons tonight. “We have got a pretty good squad, but we just have to get the right chemistry and start to gel together,” Jackson said. “We have to get better on defense. The last few minutes of the ballgame, I was pretty proud about it. We played defense and eventually, the boys will buy into that defensive philosophy and when they buy in to it, and they are willing to take pride in doing it the way we work on it in practice, I think we will have a good shot at having a good season.”
Bryant led T.R. Miller with 15 points and Caleb Dickey had seven points. Anthony Herbert had six points and Marc Edge and Jaquan Dewberry had three each. Darrion Salter had two points in the loss for T.R. Miller.
