Brewton area residents may have an opportunity to see flurries of snow Christmas Day, but the white precipitation is expected to last only as long as it takes to hit the ground.
Forecasters with the National Weather Service are watching a building storm expected along the east coast over the next several days. That storm is expected to dip into the southern states and drop a mixture of snow and/or sleet over parts of Alabama. The prediction shows a 10 to 30 percent chance of precipitation for the Brewton area on Christmas Day and into Dec. 26. The storm will bring greater amounts of snowfall to areas above I85 and northward with up to a one-inch accumulation in some areas.
Motorists are urged to use extreme caution when traveling during the times of heaviest precipitation. NWS also urges travelers to avoid traveling during the forecasted snow/sleet events.
