Despite losing to class 4A ranked Andalusia Monday at home, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers moved up one slot this week in the Alabama Sports Writers Association rankings released today.
T.R. Miller’s boys will play at No. 7 in class 4A Hillcrest Friday night to end their regular season.
There was only one change among the top-ranked teams in the ASWA rankings.
Class 2A Vincent took over the top spot in the boys rankings, moving up from third last week after both previous No. 1 Section and No. 2 Tanner both lost.
Vincent (21-6) has won eight straight games and five of its six losses came to Class 5A or Class 6A teams. Vincent’s only in-class loss was against Area 10 opponent Holy Family as the teams split games during the season. No. 10 Holy Family won the first meeting by six points at Vincent, but coach John Hadder’s Yellow Jackets won by six at Holy Family.
The Yellow Jackets won the coin toss with Holy Family for the right to host the area tournament.
There were no other changes among the leaders in the boys rankings with Class 6A Carver-Montgomery, Class 5A Lee-Huntsville, Class 4A Butler, Class 3A Sumter County, Class 1A Pickens County and AISA Evangel Christian all retaining the top spot.
There were also no changes among the leaders in the girls rankings despite losses by Class 4A Brewbaker Tech and Class 2A North Sand Mountain. Brewbaker Tech fell to Class 6A second-ranked Hoover and Class 2A North Sand Mountain lost at fourth-ranked Ider.
Class 6A Sparkman, Class 5A Erwin, Class 3A Madison Academy, Class 1A J.F. Shields and AISA Lakeside also stayed atop the rankings.
