WSN basketball falls to Flomaton Friday on senior night

Friday night’s senior night at W.S. Neal High School was a tough night for the Lady Eagle and varsity Eagle basketball teams as they ended their regular season with losses to the Hurricanes.
The Lady Eagles lost to Flomaton 68-46 while the varsity Eagles lost 59-38. There was no B-team game.
The losses ended the regular season for the Lady Eagles with a 5-17 record and the varsity Eagles with a 4-21 record.
With no B-team game, W.S. Neal ended their season 2-14.
Both the Lady Eagles and varsity Eagles will play in the class 4A area 2 tournament this week.
The varsity Eagles were set to travel to Hillcrest in Evergreen Tuesday and play Monroe County at 6 p.m. With a win, W.S. Neal will advance to the next round Friday and play Hillcrest at 7:30 p.m. A loss Tuesday will end the Eagles season.
The Lady Eagles will begin their tournament play Thursday at Jackson. W.S. Neal will play Thomasville at 6 p.m. A win will put them in the finals Saturday at 7 p.m. and qualify them for a sub-region game.

FHS 68, WSN Lady Eagles 46
After winning four of their last five games, the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles dropped a 22-point loss to Flomaton Friday night at home.
Flomaton started the game with an 8-3 lead, but W.S. Neal fought back to within one point, 8-7, with 4:54 left in the first quarter.
From that point, Flomaton would go on a 13-0 run to take a 21-7 lead with 1:26 left.
W.S. Neal ended the quarter on a 5-0 run to trail 21-12 after the first quarter of play.
In the second quarter, Flomaton edged out the Lady Eagles 19-15 to increase their lead by four points over the W.S. Neal at the half and take a 40-27 lead.
W.S. Neal would cut the Lady Hurricane lead to 10 points twice in the third quarter and outscore Flomaton 9-8 to trail by 12 points, 48-36, heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, Flomaton used an 8-0 run to build a 62-44 lead with 1:47 left in the game and end the game on a 6-0 run to outscore W.S. Neal 20-10 in the quarter and win by 22 points.
Keyvonnia Kyles had a senior night to remember despite the loss as she tallied 30 points and had six 3s in the loss.
Jasmine Crook chipped in seven points and Megan Andrews had four points. Angelique Askew had three points and Tiana Smith chipped in two points in the loss.
W.S. Neal shot 4-for-13 from the free throw line in the loss while Flomaton was 8-for-15.
Jus Do of Brewton sponsored the game ball for the Lady Eagles.

FHS 59, WSN varsity 38
One bad quarter for the W.S. Neal varsity Eagles was the recipe of a 21-point home loss to Flomaton Friday night.
That one quarter for the Eagles would be the second quarter as Flomaton used a 14-0 run to outscore the Eagles 17-1.
The 17-1 advantage for Flomaton turned a one-point lead for the Hurricanes after the first quarter, 15-14, into a 32-15 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Flomaton increased their 14-0 run to a 19-0 run to take a 37-15 lead with 7:00 left to play.
W.S. Neal would outscore Flomaton 11-7 the remainder of the quarter and trail 44-26 heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, Flomaton would end the game on a 15-12 run and get the win by 21 points.
In the loss, W.S. Neal had 10 scorers with seniors Kenny Kiser and Marc Jones leading the way with nine points each.
Josiah Nettles followed with six points in the loss and Donovan Millican had three points.
Zack Haveard, Kenyen Nettles, Dalton Evans, Jalen Harrod, and Austin Dixon all had two points each while Montrel Banks had one point.
The Eagles were 3-for-8 from the free throw line in the loss while Flomaton shot 10-for-18.
