JDCC basketball falls at Alabama Southern

A rough start to their Monday road game at Alabama Southern led to an 87-74 loss for the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk basketball team.
The loss dropped JDCC to 9-11 overall and to 6-5 in conference play.
“We got down 11-0 to start game, but cut it to three in first half,” JDCC head coach Allen Gainer said. “We got down 23 in the second half, but cut it to eight. From there we just couldn’t get over the hump.”
After starting the game down 11-0, JDCC was outscored in the first half by the Eagles of ASCC 41-31. In the second half, Alabama Southern edged out JDCC 46-43 to get the 13-point win.
Braylon Lazare and Sherman Presswood led the Warhawks in scoring with 17 points each and Brandon Scott had 14 points.
Gabriel Rice had eight and Kahlee Tyler had seven points. Turmonte Ragland had six points and Daryl Duncan had three. Joshua Fealing added two points in the loss.
Presswood and Ragland had four offensive rebounds and Rice and Scott led with four defensive rebounds.
Scott led the team with eight total rebounds. Presswood led with four assists and Ragland led with one steal. Scott also led the team with five steals.
JDCC will play at home Thursday night against Faulkner State at 7 p.m.
