Six teams — three boys, three girls — went wire-to-wire this season as No. 1 teams in the Alabama Sports Writers Association high school basketball rankings. The final rankings were released today.
In boys, Class 4A Butler (25-2), Class 3A Sumter County (24-3) and Class 1A Pickens County (23-1) started and finished No. 1. Class 3A Madison Academy (29-3), Class 2A North Sand Mountain (28-2) and Class 1A J.F. Shields (21-1) accomplished the feat in girls rankings.
There was only one change among top-ranked teams as Hoover’s girls took over Class 6A No. 1 after downing No. 18 nationally ranked Madison Academy on Tuesday. The Bucs are currently ranked No. 25 nationally.
AISA No. 1 Lakeside girls are the only ranked team in the state still undefeated at 31-0.
The Alabama High School Athletic Association’s regular season ended Tuesday with area tournament semifinals scheduled for today and Friday. Alabama Independent School Association Elite Eight action starts today.
On a local level, T.R. Miller’s Lady Tigers improved to 18-5 and remained as the No. 9-ranked team in class 3A.
