The T.R. Miller Lady Tiger basketball team earned another trip to the South Regional Thursday night at home as they defeated the Trinity Wildcats 57-38 win sub-regional play.
With the win the Lady Tigers improved their record to 21-5.
The Lady Tigers found themselves in a tough catfight early in the game and saw starting point guard get into early foul trouble.
The Lady Tigers used a 10-0 run in the second quarter and a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter after Trinity cut the lead to nine points to pull out the 19-point win.
“I think we showed a lot of poise tonight,” T.R. Miller Lady Tiger head coach Ron Jackson said. “We hung in there and kept playing and got some good play from people off the bench. We got some key people in foul trouble early and that kind of slowed us down and we could not do all the things we wanted to do defensively. We had some good play out of Diamond Middleton and Brittany Rush and LaTeysia Montgomery. We have to get ready. We might get into foul trouble next game so this was a good opportunity for us to look at some other players and see what they could do incase we get into foul trouble and we can see who will step up.”
T.R. Miller took an early 5-0 lead in the first quarter and held a 7-3 lead with 4:32 left in the quarter only to see Trinity cut the lead to 9-7 with 53 seconds left. T.R. Miller would go on and lead 11-7 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the two teams played to a 21-18 T.R. Miller lead with 2:17 left before the half only to see the Lady Tigers go on a 10-0 run and hold a 31-18 lead at the half following a 20-11 scoring advantage in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Trinity outscored T.R. Miller 6-4 to cut the lead to 11 points, 35-24, heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Trinity cut T.R. Miller’s lead to nine points, 35-26, with 7:55 only to see T.R. Miller go on a 9-0 run and claim a 44-26 lead with 5:53 left in the game.
The Lady Tigers would go an outscore Trinity 17-9 in the fourth to get the win by 19 points.
T.R. Miller shot 13-for-21 from the free throw line while Trinity was 10-for-15.
Brundidge led T.R. Miller with 17 points and Courtney Jones had 16. Adrian Gibbs was the other double-digit scorer with 10 points.
Brittany Rush added 10 points and Sha Kiser and Middleton had four points each.
T.R. Miller now advances to the South Regionals at the Mitchell Center on the campus of the University of South Alabama. The Lady Tigers will play Geneva at 6 p.m. while the other game will see Montgomery Academy play Abbeville.
Geneva defeated Slocomb 56-41 while MA defeated Clarke County 63-43 and Abbeville defeated Opp 53-50.
