A Flomaton man was arrested Thursday on drug charges after officers served a warrant at his home and also seized two vehicles.
Agents with the Escambia County Drug Task Force said Michael Jackson was arrested at his home on 34 Carver Drive in Flomaton.
“The suspect confessed that he had marijuana in one of the vehicles,” said Chief Deputy Mike Lambert of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department. “Our investigator, Bruce Shue, found around three ounces of marijuana which would have a street value of about $800.”
A 1995 Chevrolet truck was seized as was a 1982 Chevy Camaro. Jackson was charged with two counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance; two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and one count of unlawful possession of marijuana, first degree. As of Thursday afternoon, no bond had been set in the case.
In other action, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department investigated a theft of property behind Huddle House on Charlie Dawson Road at Interstate 65, where Lambert said an asphalt company had a temporary site.
“An asphalt company, APAC, was using the site to temporarily store materials while they were working in the area,” Lambert said. “No one stayed there all the time and wasn’t checked on a regular basis. The owner, Daniel Mack Milton, came by to check on it on Monday, Feb. 21, and found what he determined to be more than $50,000 worth of materials that were missing and an undetermined amount of damage had been done. There were also some items left behind, such as flashlights, grinders and torches.
“They had removed the doors from hoppers, and had taken a motor generator, pipe and 12 x 8 sheets of sheet metal,” Lambert added.
Items missing were later located in Owassa, and Lambert said Conecuh County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the investigation. The result was that two juveniles, along with their parents, were contacted. The juveniles, who were from around Barnett’s Cross Roads, confessed to taking the materials.
The two 16-year olds were turned over to the juvenile authorities and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in Baldwin County. They have been charged with theft of property, first degree; criminal mischief, first degree; and burglary, third degree.
