A teenager testified Thursday that an East Brewton man raped her “often” after a first abuse incident in 2006.
Defense witnesses are expected to begin testifying today in the trial of Timothy Odom, 44, who was arrested in 2008 on a grand jury indictment accusing him of rape of a child under the age of 16. The girl was 13 when Odom was arrested.
The Brewton Standard does not identify the victims of sexual assault.
The girl testified that the first rape occurred on July 4, 2006.
“After you went home from the fireworks, what happened?” Assistant District Attorney Amanda Hines asked the victim.
“I was in my room watching TV,” the victim said. “He came in there and tried to mess with me.”
“How did he mess with you?” Hines asked.
“He took my clothes off and he started raping me,” the victim said. “When he got done he left.”
“Did he rape you after that?” Hines asked.
“Yes,” the victim responded. “Pretty often.”
Under cross examination by defense attorney Wade Hartley, the girl appeared confused about when the abuse began and how long it occurred.
After hours of testimony presented by witnesses for the prosecution, the state rested its portion of the case Thursday afternoon.
Hartley told Circuit Judge Bert Rice he expected to call his first witness Friday morning.
