WSN track takes first at Northview meet

The W.S. Neal boys track team won their first track meet of the 2011 season Thursday at Northview.
The boys edged out host Northview 56.5 to 55.5 to get the win. J.U. Blacksher rounded out the tri-match with 42 points.
In girls action, Northview won with 79 points followed by Blacksher with 46 and W.S. Neal with 20.
“I’m really proud of the kids,” W.S. Neal Eagle track coach Rebecca Massie said. “I feel like we are finally making some progress. We are looking forward to working hard towards a key meet in Selma and sectionals at the end of the month.”
Getting points for the Eagles in the meet at Northview were LaTrae Williams who placed second in the high jump with a jump of 5-4 and a third place finish in the 200-meter with a time of 25.31.
Montrel Banks placed first in the discus and fourth in the shot put. Banks threw a throw of 104-6 in the discus and 36-2 ½ in the shot.
Justin Tompkins placed second in the discus with a 102-6 and a third place in the shot with a throw of 37-0.
Kenny Kiser had a second place finish in the long jump with a jump of 16-9 and a third place finish in the 400-meter with a time of 1:02.
Will Minchew had a third place finish in the 800-meter with a time of 2:47 and Rodney Nance had a time of 5:50 in the 1600-meter race for a first-place finish.
Donald Hardyman post a time of 6:30 in the 1600-meter race for a fourth place finish and a third place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 54.76.
Josiah Nettles ran the 110-hurdles and posted a time of 17.05 for first place and had a second place finish in the 100-meter race with a time of 11.66.
Nettles also place second in the 200-meter with a time of 23.65 and a first place finish in the 400-meter with a time of 59.9
The Eagle relay teams of the 4×800 had a second place finish with a time of 10:53 followed by the 4×400 team with a second place finish and a time of 4:41. The 4×100 team had a first place finish and a time of 48.04.
For the girls, Leighanne Gibson had a fourth place finish in the discus with a throw of 64-0 and Khadijah Barton had a third place finish in the 200-meter race with a time of 30.10.
Deja Stallworth finished the 400-meter in the fourth place with a time of 1:22.
Jasmine Crook had a second place finish in the 100-meters and a first place in the 200-meters. Crook’s time in the 100-meters was 13.78 and a 29.06 in the 200.
The 4×400 relay had a time of 7:11 for second place and the 4×100 team had a time of 59.75 for first place.
