As area churches gather together at noon throughout this week, they join a community of Christians around the world, the Rev. John Mathieu said Tuesday.

“We lift our hearts, our hands, and our lives to you because you are Father,” he said as First Presbyterian Church of Brewton hosted the second day of joint Holy Week services.

“We join believers around the world who are celebrating Holy Week.”

The Rev. Ed Glaize, pastor of Brewton First United Methodist Church, gave the message Tuesday, urging those attending to think beyond their lives on earth.

“Do we live like we believe?” he said. “Do we let eternity color our decisions every day? Do we live like we believe in a life after death?”

Glaize reminded the audience that what they have comes from God, and belongs to God.

“Don’t hold on too much to wealth and excess,” he said. “Don’t be dismayed by the things you are dealing with that are causing you trouble. They will one day be no more.”

Services will continue this week, with St. Stephens Episcopal hosting today; FUMC hosting Thursday; and First Baptist hosting Friday. Lunch follows the service.
