JDCC softball stays alive for state tournament with sweep of LBW

The Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk softball has done their part to make the state tournament, now all they have to do is get a little help.
After having to win the remaining six conference games on their schedule, the Lady Warhawks went 5-1 with a most recent sweep of LBW at home Tuesday.
“We still have to wait until Friday before we know if we are in the tournament,” JDCC head coach Misti Nims said. “LBW and Faulkner play and if Faulkner sweeps, we are in.”
JDCC improved their overall record to 28-28 Tuesday and their conference record to 11-13 with a sweep of LBW Tuesday.
JDCC won game one 4-2 and game two 6-4 to get the sweep.
In other games for JDCC, the Lady Warhawks split at Pensacola State losing game one 4-1 and winning game two 4-3 Thursday at Pensacola.
Saturday at home against Bishop State in a conference game, JDCC lost game one 9-8, but won game two 7-6.

PSC 4, JDCC 1
In game one on the road at Pensacola in a non-conference game, JDCC lost 4-1 to fall to 24-27 overall.
Pensacola scored one run in the second and three in the fourth while holding JDCC to one lone run in the seventh.
At the plate for JDCC, Brittany McCastle was 1-for-4 with the lone RBI.
Andrea Ruschel, Kayla Hayes, Mallori Armstrong, Amber Steadham and Nataline Moseley all had hits in the loss with Steadham going 2-for-4.
Jessica Myrick and Alley Smith pitched in the loss going six innings allowing 12 hits, four runs, two earned, walked one and struck out two.

JDCC 4, PSC 3
In game two, JDCC led 4-1 after four innings and held on for a one-run win over Pensacola 4-3.
Danielle McCastle was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Ruschel was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Steadham was 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Elise Schanley was 2-for-4 and Brittany McCastle was 1-for-2. Moseley was 1-for-3 and Jennifer Morris was 1-for-2.
Brittany Linton and Loren McVicker pitched in the win going a combined seven innings allowing five hits, three runs, two earned, walked two and struck out four.

Bishop State 9, JDCC 8
Back in conference play Saturday at home, JDCC split with Bishop State losing game one 9-8.
Leading 5-3 after five innings, JDCC fell to four Bishop runs in the sixth inning to trail 7-5, but responded with two in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 7-7 and send the game into extra innings.
In the eighth, Bishop scored two runs and held JDCC to one to get the 9-8 win.
Schanley was 1-for-3 with a double and Ruschel was 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.
Armstrong was 2-for-4 with a double and Steadham was 2-for-4 with a homerun and one RBI.
Moseley was 1-for-5 with a double and Danielle McCastle was 2-for-4 with one RBI while Morris was 1-for-3.
Linton took the loss pitching eight innings and allowing 11 hits, nine runs, three earned, walked two and struck out nine.

JDCC 7, Bishop 6
In game two with Bishop, JDCC won 7-6 in another extra inning game.
Trailing 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh, JDCC scored three runs to tie the game at 6-6 and held Bishop in the eighth while scoring one run to get the win.
Schanley was 2-for-4 along with Ruschel who had two RBIs.
Brittany McCastle was 1-for-4 with one RBI and Armstrong was 2-for-2. Steadham was 1-for-4 and Ashley Killan was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI.
Moseley was 2-for-4 and Danielle McCastle was 1-for-4 with three RBIs.
Linton took the win in game two pitching five innings and allowing six hits, four runs, one earned, walked none and struck out one.
Myrick and Smith also pitched in the win.

JDCC 4, LBW 2
Needing a sweep to stay alive for the conference tournament Tuesday at home, JDCC won game one over LBW 4-2.
JDCC led 2-1 after the first inning and added one run each in the second and third to take a 4-1 lead. LBW scored one in the sixth, but JDCC hung on for the win by two.
Schanley was 2-for-3 and Brittany McCastle was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Armstrong was 1-for-2 with one RBI and Steadham was 3-for-3 with a double.
Danielle McCastle was 1-for-3 with a two-run homerun in the first inning.
Linton earned the win in game one going the complete game seven innings and allowing six hits, two runs, one earned, walked one and struck out nine.

JDCC 6, LBW 4
JDCC finished off the sweep in game two to improve their record to 28-28 overall and 11-13 in conference play with a 6-4 win.
Both teams scored four runs in the first inning with JDCC adding two in the fourth to get the win.
Brittany McCastle was 1-for-3 and Armstrong was 1-for-2. Steadham was 1-for-2 with a homerun and four RBIs. Danielle McCastle was 1-for-2 with a homerun and one RBI and Morris was 1-for-3.
Myrick earned the win on the mound going five innings allowing six hits, no runs, no walks and struck out three.
Linton also pitched in the win.
