On senior day in their final regular season home game Tuesday against Hillcrest, the No. 6-ranked T.R. Miller Lady Tiger softball rolled to a 15-0 win in three innings.
With the win, the Lady Tigers improved their record to 20-11.
In the senior day win for the Lady Tigers, starting pitcher and senior Miranda Smith pitched two innings of perfect softball while reliever Laurel Billy pitched one inning of perfect ball.
The duo faced the minimum three batters each inning and allowed no runs, no hits, no walks and struck out none.
All nine Hillcrest outs in the Lady Tiger win were groundouts.
T.R. Miller batted around in the first inning while scoring 10 runs to take an early 10-0 lead.
The Lady Tigers added three runs in the second and two in the bottom of the third to get the 15-run mercy rule win in three innings.
At the plate for the Lady Tigers, Leah Brundidge was 1-for-4 and Natalie Neal was 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Taylor Guthrie was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Leigh Margaret Bostic was 2-for-2 with one RBI and Kristen Booker was 1-for-1.
Lauren Ward was 1-for-2 and Jessica Allan was 1-for-2. Miranda Smith was 1-for-1 in the win for the Lady Tigers.
“This was our last game of the regular season and to finish with a win at home was great for our team and a great win for the seniors on senior day,” Lady Tiger head coach Greg White said. “We’ve battled back since the Gulf Shores tournament by winning three straight games and allowing zero points in each game (defeated W.S. Neal 6-0, J.U. Blacksher 12-0 and Hillcrest 15-0). Right now we are doing the things we need to do, both offensively and defensively, that give us an opportunity to win games. Hopefully we can keep it up as the area tournament approaches.”
White said he has five seniors on his team that have played a lot of softball for T.R. Miller over the past six years.
“Leigh Margaret Bostic, Natalie Neal, Emily Waters and Teralyn Moore have all been a part of the program for six years and Miranda Smith has been a part of the program for four years,” White said of his seniors. “Over that period of time I have been fortunate to be a part of their lives and I have watched them grow into young ladies and pretty good ball players. These girls have made many sacrifices for me and for T.R. Miller softball over their careers and I am extremely appreciative of them for that. I am confident that each of these girls will go on and become successful in whatever they choose to do after they leave T.R. Miller High School.”
T.R. Miller will play in the area tournament at Excel Tuesday. Times are not known as of press time.
