In the first two games of the 2011 Brewton Babe Ruth season Monday in East Brewton, the Indians and Pirates picked up wins.
The Indians rolled to a 16-9 win over the Yankees to start their season 1-0 while the Yankees started 0-1 with the seven-run loss.
In the nightcap of the opening doubleheader, the Pirates rallied to outlast the Orioles 8-7 in a marathon game that lasted three hours.
Teams were set to be back in action Tuesday and are scheduled to play again Thursday in East Brewton at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
Monday and Tuesday’s games were set to be played at T.R. Miller’s baseball field, but a transformer blew causing games to be moved.
The Cardinals had the night off.

Indians 16, Yankees 9
The Indians batted around in the first inning and scored 14 runs to help propel them to a 16-9 romp of the Yankees in the first game of the season.
After striking first with one run in the top of the first, the Yankees made five errors in the bottom of the inning while the Indians had six hits and scored 14 runs to take a 14-1 lead after one inning of play.
In the second, the Yankees stormed back with five runs to cut the lead to 14-6, but the Indians added two in the third to extend their lead to 16-6.
In the fourth, the Yankees scored three to cut the lead to 16-9, but the damage had already been done as the Indians picked up the win.
At the plate for the Yankees, Tim McDonald and Colton Morris were both 1-for-3 with Morris having a double and one RBI in the loss.
Morris took the loss on the mound for the Yankees pitching 1/3 of an inning and allowing six hits, 14 runs, seven earned, walked one and hit two. McDonald and Cam Easterling also pitched in the loss.
The Yankees made eight errors in the loss.
For the Indians, Keaton Parker and Tyler Joyner were both 1-for-3 with Joyner having two RBIs.
Michael Williams was 2-for-2 with a double and Trippe Floyd hit the first homerun of the season as he belted a three-run homerun in the first inning to go 1-for-1 with three RBIs.
Ryann Gray was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Christopher Gehman was 1-for-1.
Joyner earned the win on the mound for the Indians going 1 2/3 innings allowing no hits, six runs, three earned, walked two, struck out one and hit four.
Parker and Christian Alvarez also pitched in the win for the Indians.

Pirates 8, Orioles 7
In the second game Monday in East Brewton, the Pirates outlasted the Orioles as they rallied to win 8-7.
The Orioles led 1-0 after the first inning and 2-0 after the second only to see the Pirates score two of their own in the third to tie the game at 2-2.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Orioles plated three runs to take a 5-2 lead and lead 5-3 heading into the top of the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the inning, the Orioles scored one run to take a 6-3 lead. Trailing by three, the Pirates stormed back with three in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 6-6.
In the seventh, the Pirates scored two runs and held the Orioles to only one with runners on second and third to get the win.
For the Pirates, Nick Glass earned the win in relief and Taylor Elliott picked up the save. Glass went 3 1/3 innings while Elliott went the final 2/3. Glass surrendered two runs, four hits, walked five and struck out four. Elliott got two fly outs to end the game.
Lane Chavers got the start and the no-decision.
At the plate, Malcolm Hawthorne was 1-for-4 and Elliott was 1-for-2. Damion Williams had one RBI and Alex O’Keane was 2-for-2 with one RBI. Robin Swift was 2-for-3 and Houston Gray was 1-for-2.
For the Orioles in the loss, Kieon Smith and Dominique Jackson both homered in the third inning to help them build a 5-2 lead.
Smith went 1-for-4 with a solo homerun and Caden Lodge was 1-for-2. Jackson was 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run homerun to finish with three RBIs.
Justin Sessions was 2-for-3 with a double and Zac Griffin was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Jared Salter and Tyler Reid were both 1-for-4.
Reid took the loss on the mound for the Orioles in relief. Reid went one inning while Smith got the start and went three innings. Sessions went one inning and Jackson went 1 1/3 innings. Griffin went the final 2/3.
