In two back-and-forth Brewton Babe Ruth games Friday in East Brewton, the Orioles and Yankees picked up wins to improve their records.
In game one Friday at Johnson Park, the Orioles edged out the Cardinals 7-6 to improve their record to 4-3 while the Yankees rallied after blowing a big lead to get a 14-11 win over the Pirates. The win for the Yankees improved their record to 3-5.
After Friday games, the Indians, who had Friday off, still lead the overall standings with a 6-1 record followed by the Orioles at 4-3, the Cardinals at 3-4, the Yankees at 3-5 and the Pirates rounding out the teams with a 2-5 record.

Orioles 7, Cardinals 6
With the game tied 5-5 after six innings, the Brewton Babe Ruth Orioles scored two runs in the top of the seventh while holding the Cardinals to one in the bottom of the inning to get a one-run win Friday in East Brewton.
After one inning of play, the Cardinals led the Orioles 3-2 behind a three-run homerun of Darby Black.
Both teams failed to score in the second inning, but the Orioles claimed a 4-3 lead in the top of the third inning with two runs of their own. In the bottom of the fourth, the Cardinals tied the game at 4-4 but saw the Orioles take a 5-4 lead in the fifth behind Caden Lodge’s solo homerun. In the sixth, the Cardinals tied the game at 5-5, but were outscored 2-1 in the final inning to lose by one.
Lodge got the start on the mound and no decision for the Orioles while Kieon Smith earned the win in relief. Lodge went 5 2/3 innings allowing seven hits, five runs, five earned, walked three, struck out 11 and hit none.
Smith went 1 1/3 innings allowing three hits, and one earned run.
At the plate, Smith was 1-for-3 with a triple and Lodge was 2-for-2 with a homerun and two RBIs.
Dominique Jackson was 1-for-2 with two RBIs along with Zac Griffin. Justin Sessions and Jared Salter were both 1-for-4 and Landon Salter was 1-for-1.
For the Cardinals, Black got the start and the no decision going four innings allowing five hits, four runs, two earned, walked three, struck out six and hit one. Miles Powell took the loss going three innings allowing three hits, three runs, three earned, walked four, struck out two and hit one.
At the plate, Powell was 2-for-4 with a double and Nick Laster was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Black was 1-for-4 with a homerun and three RBIs.
James Peach was 1-for-3 and Todd Mayo was 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Patrick Ard was 1-for-2 with a double and one RBI and Jonathon Lucas was 1-for-2.

Yankees 14, Pirates 11
An 8-0 lead after one inning and an 8-1 lead after two innings were almost not enough for the Yankees Friday night as they held on for a 14-11 win over the Pirates.
Leading 8-1 after the second inning, the Pirates scored eight of their own in the top of the third to take a 9-8 lead in the top of the inning.
In the bottom of the third, the Yankees responded with six runs to take a 14-9 lead and held on for the three-run lead after the Pirates scored two in the fourth.
Rob Jones, Cam Easterling and Hunter Harp all pitched in the win for the Yankees with trio allowing eight hits in four innings of work along with 11 runs, five earned, walked six, struck out five and hit one.
For the Pirates, Chris Jones, Lane Chavers and Taylor Elliott pitched allowing eight hits, 14 runs, 10 earned, walked 10, struck out two and hit none in three innings.
At the plate for the Yankees, Markail Mitchell was 2-for-4 and Harp was 1-for-1. Easterling was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and Dalton Shell was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Tim McDonald was 1-for-1 with a double and two RBIs and Dakota Graves was 1-for-2. Andrew Langham had one RBI in the win.
For the Pirates, Elliott was 1-for-2 with one RBI and Patrick Glass was 1-for-2. Jones was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Alex O’Keane was 1-for-1. Dalton Smith was 1-for-2 along with Houston Gray and Logan Allen was 1-for-2 with one RBI.
