Indians and Cardinals pick up Tuesday Brewton Babe Ruth wins

With two game dates left on the schedule in the 2011 Brewton Babe Ruth season, the Indians and Cardinals picked up wins Tuesday night in Brewton.
The Indians all but clinched the league championship as they improved to 9-1 with an 8-3 win over the Pirates in game one Tuesday.
In game two, the Cardinals defeated the Yankees 10-3 to improve their record to 5-5.
With losses Tuesday, the Pirates fell to 2-9 and the Yankees fell to 4-7.
After Tuesday’s games, the Indians are in first place followed by the idle Orioles in second with a 6-4 record.
In third place are the Cardinals at 5-5 followed by the Yankees in fourth and the Pirates in fifth.
Games are set to be played Thursday and the final games on Friday in Brewton.
Thursday, he Yankees will play the Orioles at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Cardinals and Indians at 7:30 p.m. The Pirates will have Thursday off.
On Friday, the Cardinals and Pirates will play at 5:30 p.m. while the Indians and Orioles will play at 7:30 p.m. The Yankees will have Friday off.

Indians 8, Pirates 3
In a battle of the first and last place teams in the Brewton Babe Ruth standings Tuesday in game one, it looked as if the Pirates were about to shock the first-place Indians as they lead early by a score of 1-0 through two innings of play.
After seeing the Indians tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the third, they showed the Pirates why they were the top team in the league as they scored four runs in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead and added some late runs to get a five-run win, 8-3.
After claiming the 5-1 lead in the top of the fourth, the Pirates fought back to cut the lead to 5-3 after four innings. After a scoreless fifth and sixth innings from both teams, the Indians scored three runs in the top of the seventh to get the win by five.
At the plate for the Indians, Brandon Carmichael was 1-for-4 and Rob Stokes was 1-for-3. Keaton Parker had two RBIs and Ryann Gray was 1-for-3 with a triple.
Dylan Etheridge was 1-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs and Christian Alvarez was 1-for-2.
Stokes earned the win on the mound going the complete game and allowing seven hits, three earned runs, walked three, hit one and struck out six.
For the Pirates, Taylor Elliott was 3-for-4 with a triple and Alex O’Keane was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Malcolm Hawthorne was 1-for-2 with a triple and Logan Allen was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
Lane Chavers was 1-for-3 with a double.
Chris Jones took the loss on the mound going the first four innings and allowing one hit, five runs, three earned, walked six, hit one and struck out five.
Chavers and Elliott also pitched in the loss.

Cardinals 10, Yankees 3
The Cardinals scored in every inning but one Tuesday night in Brewton as they downed the Yankees 10-3.
The Cardinals led 1-0 after one inning, 2-0 after two, and 4-0 after the third inning. After the Yankees scored one run in the bottom of the fourth, the Cardinals added three in fifth and three in the sixth to take a 10-1 lead before the Yankees scored two in the seventh.
For the Cardinals, Miles Powell was 1-for-4 and Darby Black was 3-for-3 with a double and a triple and four RBIs.
Lowell Swain was 1-for-2 with one RBI and Jones Manning was 2-for-3 with a triple.
Jake Najor was 1-for-2 and Cody Carter had one RBI in the win.
Powell earned the win on the mound going three innings and walking two and striking out five while allowing no runs.
Nick Laster went the final three innings and allowed four hits, three earned runs, walked four and struck out five.
For the Yankees, Rob Jones was 1-for-2 with a triple and Colton Morris, Cam Easterling and Dalton Shell were all 1-for-3 with one RBI each.
Easterling got the start on the mound and took the loss going three innings and allowing five hits, four runs, three earned, walked four and struck out one.
Jones and Tim McDonald also pitched in the loss for the Yankees.
