Rolling rabies clinic set

Putting a barrier between diseases carried by wild life and humans is the main purpose behind a traveling rabies clinic set for this weekend in Escambia County.
Dr. John Bagwell, a Brewton veterinarian, has been traveling a route through the county for several years offering residents an opportunity to vaccinate their pets against the disease. The 2011 tour is set to begin Saturday morning.
“We need to vaccinate all pets against rabies,” Bagwell said. “We do these clinic stops to make it easier for pet owners to take care of the vaccinations in their own neighborhoods instead of having to make a trip into town.”
The traveling clinic will take to the road early Saturday morning and make stops in several areas throughout the county over the course of the day, Bagwell said.
The first stop will be at the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department at 7 a.m. with the final stop planned at Maxwell’s Quickmart on U.S. 29 just before 5 p.m. Each stop will be five to 15 minutes in duration before the clinic goes to the next location on the list, Bagwell said.
“Each stop will be for just a short time,” Bagwell said. “We want people to know where we’ll be at what time so they can be ready when we arrive.”
The cost for the vaccination is $9 and will be administered to any dog or cat three months old or older, Bagwell said.
