Brewton 9-10s go 2-2 at district

The Brewton Cal Ripken 9-10 all stars finished in third place in the district tournament in Brewton.
After winning their first two games of pool play against Atmore and Flomaton, Brewton lost to Covington County in their final pool play to finish second.
After advancing to the final four as one of the top two teams in their pool, Brewton faced the winner of the other pool South Alabama Monday and lost.
Brewton opened the tournament with an 11-3 win over Atmore Friday and won Saturday over Flomaton 10-1.
Sunday, Brewton lost to Covington County 11-9 before losing to South Alabama Monday 11-3.

Friday: Brewton 11, Atmore 3
Matt Smith and Joseph Blackburn held Atmore to three runs on four hits in Brewton’s game one win over Atmore.
Brewton trailed 2-0 after the second inning but took a 3-2 lead in the third and a 4-2 lead after the top of the fourth.
After Atmore cut the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth, Brewton responded with four runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to get the win.
Smith and Blackburn pitched with Smith getting the win. The dup struck out six in the win.
Having hits for Brewton was Trentez Johnson, Blackburn with a three-run triple, and Logan Bush with two singles. Johnson had one RBI in the win.

Saturday: Brewton 10, Flomaton 1
In their second win of the tournament Saturday, Brewton defeated Flomaton 10-1.
Brewton scored eight runs in the second inning and two in the fourth while holding Flomaton to one in the third.
Micah Flores pitched in the win for Brewton as they benefited from nine walks and two hit batters in the win.
At the plate for Brewton, Flores and Todd Watson were both 1-for-2 with Lyon Jernigan going 1-for-1.

Sunday: Covington County 11, Brewton 9
Needing a win to clinch the top spot in their pool, Brewton lost 11-9 to Covington County Sunday and had to settle for the No. 2 spot.
Leading 6-5 heading into the bottom of the fifth, Brewton gave up six runs to Covington County to fall behind 11-6.
Down by five heading to the final inning, Brewton rallied to cut the lead to 11-9 with three runs, but failed to get any closer.
Blackburn took the loss on the mound for the Brewton all stars.
Brewton trailed 3-1 after the first inning but took a 4-3 lead with three runs in the second.
In the bottom of the inning, Covington County responded with two runs to take a 5-4 lead.
In the top of the third, Brewton retook the lead with two runs to take a 6-5 lead before the six-run inning for Covington.
Brewton had five hits in the game with Hunter Johnson going 1-for-2 with one RBI in the loss, Kyle Blevins going 2-for-3 with one RBI and Bush and Blackburn having one hit each. Blackburn had one RBI in the loss.

Monday: South Alabama 11, Brewton 3
In the single elimination part of the tournament Monday, Brewton saw their season end with an 11-3 loss to South Alabama.
After trailing 1-0 after two innings, Brewton took a 2-1 lead in the top of third inning only to see South Alabama tie the game with one run of their own.
With the game tied 2-2, South Alabama scored six runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to take an 11-2 lead and held Brewton to one run in the sixth to get the win.
Smith took the loss for Brewton going 3 2/3 innings. Flores and Blake Jernigan also pitched in the loss.
Brewton was held to two in the loss. Johnson had one hit for Brewton and Blackburn had the other.
