Swim team wins local event Saturday

The Brewton Local Area Swim Team Tigersharks recently hosted the Gulf Coast Area Aquatic League Junior Championships at the Brewton Area YMCA.
The meet was comprised of teams from all around the Gulf Coast. Teams participating in the meet were: Fairhope Area Swim Team, Eastern Shore Piranhas, Gulf Shores Swim Teams, Bay Minette Tigersharks, Orange Beach Swim Team, Foley Gators Swim Team.
The Tigersharks won the meet racking up 1,254 points, followed closely by the Fairhope team who scored 1,217 points.
Swim team head coach Angel Boyd stated that the meet was a huge success for our team.
“The kids swam their hearts out, and their hard work paid off,” Boyd said.
Tigersharks competing in the meet this past weekend were: Payton Baxter, Caleb Kent, Callie Kent, Kinsley Byrd, Addison Heath, Daniel Todd, Makenna Rowell, Austin Rowell, Alex Lund, John Braxton Rhodes, Adrian Howell, Cobi Godwin, Auburn Jernigan, Rider Jernigan, Sara Scott, Sailor Smith, Jocelyn Carpenter, Makenzie Thomas.
“All of our kids medaled in this meet,” Boyd said.
Along with the home meet, the B.L.A.S.T. Tigersharks have two young swimmers who have qualified for the Long Course Southeastern Meet of Champions to be held in Knoxville July 14-17.
Cole Jernigan, son of Lee and Felica Jernigan, and Colby Morris, son of Brandee Morris, qualified.
“These young men have been swimming in Long Course meets since April of this year and have made All Star status in the swimming world,” Boyd said. “Both of these young men are outstanding young athletes, who will be great representatives from our team and city at this huge meet. The meet will be comprised of teams from all over the Southeastern United States – Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, North Florida, and South Carolina.”
