Two Brewton residents face a variety of drug charges after their arrests in recent days.
Byron Jones of Brewton was arrested Monday morning when officers noticed the suspect acting suspiciously, police said.
Brewton Police Officer Nicholas Stanley came in contact with Jones along Sowell Road, according to Sgt. Bryan Davis, head of the department’s Narcotics Division.
“Jones was acting suspicious and our officer approached him,” Davis said. “Jones was found to be in possession of several bags of marijuana which appeared to be packaged for distribution.”
Davis said Jones was placed under arrested and was charged with first-degree possession of marijuana with Sgt. David Mathis assisting in the investigation. He was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center where he was booked on the charges.
In a separate incident, Brewton Police Officer Deric Smith arrested a second suspect just before 1 a.m. Tuesday, Davis said.
Christian Lancaster of Brewton was charged with public intoxication after officers came in contact with the suspect along Belleville Avenue.
“When Officer Smith made contact with Lancaster, she was very intoxicated,” Davis said. “Lancaster was arrested for public intoxication at that time.”
Davis said Lancaster was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center to be booked on the charges and a search by a female corrections officer was conducted.
“She was found to be in possession of a small amount of cocaine in her clothes,” Davis said. “As a result, she was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.”
Lancaster was held on $5,000 bond. Jones was held on $5,000 and violation of probation.
